    About Southern Vision Alliance and Queer Mobilization Fund

    Southern Vision Alliance (SVA) is a values-based “grassroots intermediary” organized to provide infrastructure, capacity-building, coaching, and technical assistance to groups and projects led by directly impacted communities. SVA supports emergent grassroots groups and efforts organizing for social, racial, economic, gender, and environmental justice in the U.S. South. We build movement infrastructure, mobilize resources, and incubate collaborative solidarity. SVA is headquartered in Durham, NC and supports a diverse cohort of fiscally sponsored projects, groups and funds across North Carolina.     The People’s Solidarity Hub (PSH) is a gathering space in Durham, NC for activists and organizers to build collective power. We build solidarity through the sharing of resources and uplifting mutual aid through our People’s Lending Library, hosting skill shares, open community hours, and community sourced programming. The PSH associate will work to support the PSH coordinator and SVA’s leadership team to run the seamless operation of the People’s Solidarity Hub. The PSH associate will work to be a welcoming, encouraging and dependable support to all users of the space and to the overall movement for social justice and liberation through the space that is PSH. Some of the expected tasks are as follows:

    • Conducts orientations for new users of the PSH
    • Fields questions from users and references guides and handbooks to find answers
    • Assists with scheduling, booking approval and system as needed
    • Assists in clean up and regular building maintenance
    • Leads on operation of lending library, scheduling pick up and drop off times with users, maintaining documentation and check in and check out processes.
    • Supports with recruitment, training, and scheduling of PSH volunteers
    • Participates in monthly Advisory Council (AC) meetings
    • Helps recruit new Advisory Council members
    • Assists as needed for fundraising, such as helping to report on PSH activities to impress funders, or taking and sharing pictures occasionally
    • Collaborates with PSH staff and AC to plan for low-lift programming, emphasizing our role as intermediaries who facilitate the process of grassroots groups leading programs
    • Learns to operate printer and guides user through the process
    • Stays vigilant of any potential risks or vulnerabilities arising in the PSH space
    • Communicates any risks or important observations to appropriate staff
    • Uses de-escalation techniques at all times to try and keep situations as calm and manageable as possible
    • Keeps up with ALL security protocols and rules
    • Does not share important secure passwords or codes outside of LastPass
    • Resets door and alarm codes as needed / as directed by physical plant coordinator
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated passion for community and network building, analysis development, and community-driven initiatives for visionary change.
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
    • Excellent administrative skills, with the ability to track and respond multiple requests and needs at one time
    • Creative thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying opportunities and addressing challenges.
    • 4+ years of demonstrated operational, administrative, and/or space management experience
    • 2+ years experience in movement building and/or political organizing

    Compensación

    Optional 401(k) employer-paid matching contribution that equals 100% on the first 3% of pay that you elect to contribute out of your paycheck. Accrued pro-rata PTO. (Eligible after 90 days of employment. Subject to annual budget changes.)
