    Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition.

    Harlem Grown operates 13 urban agricultural sites featuring 5 soil-based urban farms, 4 school gardens, 3 hydroponic greenhouses, and a mushroom chamber. All of our sites are located between 122 and 152 Streets in Central Harlem, Manhattan.

    Since 2021, our programming has served over 10,000 youth in Harlem, we've produced and distributed over 100,000 servings of food, and diverted over 50,000 pounds of food scraps into local compost operations.

    Our Programs

    Harlem Grown provides youth and community development programs focused on urban farming, wellness, and sustainability through the lens of racial justice, food justice, social justice, and equity. Our youth focused programs include intensive school partnerships, educational farm tours, a summer camp, a Saturday enrichment program, monthly community events, an afterschool program, and our Mobile Teaching Kitchen. Our community development programs open to all ages include wellness workshops, special events, food scrap collection for composting, and fresh produce distribution to participants, volunteers, and neighborhood residents.

    Position Summary: Harlem Grown seeks an organized and strategic Development Coordinator to support fundraising efforts through donor relations, donor engagement, and corporate benefits delivery. The Coordinator provides the donors in Harlem Grown’s community with an exceptional experience that inspires continued and growing support of our mission. Collaborative and strategic, the Coordinator makes the highest and best use of organizational resources, continually building efficiency in processes. This position is full-time, reporting to the Director of Development Operations, and works closely with stakeholders across the organization.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Donor Relations

    • Coordinate pledge payment reminders.
    • Answer incoming donor inquiries, providing exceptional ‘customer service’.
    • Develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures related to donor relations.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Donor Engagement

    • Maintain the department’s donor engagement plan and calendar through collaboration with colleagues across the department.
    • Project manage implementation of the donor engagement plan, making highest and best use of the team’s time and resources.
    • Coordinate experiences in the donor engagement plan, such as: site visits, cultivation events, impact reports, and special mailings.
    • Develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures related to donor engagement.
    • Implement the social media strategy outlined by the development manager overseeing storytelling.
    • Design marketing collateral for donor engagement opportunities as outlined by development manager.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Corporate Benefits Delivery

    • Maintain up-to-date corporate benefits and sponsorship packages.
    • Project-manage fulfillment of corporate benefits and sponsorship packages, making highest and best use of the team’s time and resources.
    • Coordinate experiences for corporate partners, such as site visits, cultivation events, volunteer days, and lunch & learns.
    • Develop, document, and continually enhance systems and procedures related to corporate benefits delivery.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications:

    • At least two (2) years of nonprofit development and writing experience preferred, ideally with experience securing funding from foundations, corporations, individuals, and/or government entities.
    • Experience with Salesforce and Instagram strongly preferred.
    • Excellent organizational, communication and project management skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • Impeccable writing and editing skills; ability to develop clear, concise, and compelling narratives.
    • Personable, friendly, positive team player able to build relationships with key supporters.
    • Motivated, creative and punctual, able to work both independently and as part of a team.
