Little Island seeks a Finance Manager to join our team. This individual will be responsible for overseeing key financial functions, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance in all day-to-day accounting activities. The ideal candidate has strong judgment, adaptability, and experience managing financial operations, including payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
A proactive and forward-thinking leader, the Finance Manager will partner with the Director of Finance to oversee an operating budget of approximately $18M, ensuring strong financial controls and operational excellence.
What You’ll Do
Team Leadership & Payroll Oversight
- Supervise the year-round Finance Associate and Payroll Specialist
- Manage organization-wide payroll, which includes year-round administrative, park, and artistic staff and expands to approximately 300+ employees during the summer season
- Ensure all time is approved by the weekly deadline, liaising with all Departments as needed
- Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing, including time approvals, wage calculations, and final payroll reconciliations
- Develop and implement workflow improvements and employee training programs.
- Escalate any concerns to the Director of Finance and Assistant Director of Human Resources as needed
Financial Operations & Month-End Close
- Manage the organization-wide monthly close process, ensuring all departments meet deadlines and have access to real-time financial data
- Conduct final reviews of credit card and petty cash reconciliations
- Enter all journal entries across the organization
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations in Sage Intacct, identifying and correcting discrepancies
Accounts Payable & Compliance
- Oversee accounts payable processes, ensuring timely and accurate payments
- Manage the setup and use of organizational credit cards and associate platform (Airbase)
- Prepare and submit annual 1099s with support from the Finance Associate
- Maintain compliance with financial policies, contracts, insurance requirements, and IRS documentation
- Ensure liability insurance and rights reporting are accurate and submitted on time
Financial Systems & Process Improvement
- Train employees on best practices for the time and attendance system, and its integration with the chart of accounts and expense reconciliation processes
- Maintain an organized digital system for accounting files and financial records
- Automate workflows and streamline processes, eliminating redundancies
- Support the annual audit process
What You Bring
- B.S. degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration and/or 5+ years’ experience in the financial management or non-profit bookkeeping
- Strong interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and presentation skills
- Proven ability to guide and lead employees in sound financial practices
- Experience working effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
- Proficiency in managing accountingfigures, financial records, and posting transactions
- Hands-on experience with spreadsheets and financial software; proficiency in English and MS Office
- High level of accountability, discretion, and ethical decision-making
- Strong understanding of GAAP compliance, accounts payable principles, and financial best practices
- Knowledge of Sage Intacct (preferred)
- Familiarity with Extensis or similar PEO systems (a plus)
- Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer
- Occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs)
- Ability to navigate an office environment and attend in-person meetings
- Eligibility to work in the U.S.
