    Descripción

    Background:

Gateways exists to enable students with diverse learning needs to succeed in Jewish educational settings and participate meaningfully in Jewish life. Over the last 15 years, Gateways has partnered with day schools, congregational and community schools and early childhood programs in the Boston region and beyond to provide special education services, expertise, and support. Gateways also operates its own independent formal and informal Jewish education programs designed for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.

Shiluv, Hebrew for “inclusion,” is an innovative Gateways program that transforms attitudes, fosters belonging, and cultivates a culture of respect and appreciation for learning, physical, emotional, and developmental differences within Jewish educational settings. Educators participate in an eight-month fellowship guided by experts, where they explore personal, institutional, and communal attitudes toward disability, identify areas for change, and implement strategies to build inclusive school communities. Fellows gain access to the Shiluv Curriculum for grades K–5, featuring lesson plans, book discussion guides, Jewish text studies, and resources for hosting guest speakers who have lived experiences of disability. During the fellowship and beyond, educators implement the multisensory, experiential curriculum, creating meaningful opportunities for students to reflect on their own traits, appreciate individual differences, and brainstorm ways to foster belonging and equity. By transforming attitudes about disability and building communities of belonging through a uniquely Jewish lens, Shiluv redefines disability inclusion within Jewish education.

Gateways is currently hiring a coordinator to oversee the implementation of the Shiluv Peer Disability Education Program, including coordinating the Faculty Fellowship program, overseeing curriculum implementation, supporting curriculum development, and promoting the program.

      • Providing 1:1 coaching to faculty fellows to support their implementation of the curriculum
    • Facilitate Shiluv curriculum directly with Jewish day school students in select schools in the Greater Boston area
    • Coordinate featured speakers who will speak with students about their lived experience with disability
    • Curriculum development: Collaborate with other Gateways staff to continue to update and expand the Shiluv Curriculum
    • Support program marketing efforts, in collaboration with Gateways’ Communications Manager and other Gateways staff
    • Coordinate with schools implementing the curriculum and ensure licensing is up to date
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications/Requirements:

    • Background in disability studies, and grounding in the social model of disability
