The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area was founded in 1918, and its mission is to welcome, educate and serve immigrants, refugees and their families as they join and contribute to the community. IIBA provides immigration legal services, English and civic education, and other services throughout the Bay Area, as well as through its collaborative efforts with local and regional service providers. Job Summary:

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing Immigration Institute of the Bay Area’s (IIBA) fundraising activities. This includes expanding our donor base to include a major gifts program and lead our annual appeal special events. The Director works closely with the Executive Director and the Communications Director in development and fund raising endeavors.

Job Responsibilities:

• Identify and steward prospective donors and supporters.
• Develop and implement a major gifts program in partnership with the Executive Director
• Direct all fundraising events, including mailings and annual fundraising drives.
• Build and execute an annual and long-term development plan, including all aspects of a program including major gifts, annual campaigns, corporate giving, and other funding sources.
• Develop both long- and short-range operational plans to strengthen, grow, and track the progress of the development department.
• Manage IIBA’s development budget.
• Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about IIBA with the community.
• Be a resource to the Board and Development Committee
• Act as the lead staff to the Development Committee
• Engage Board Members in fundraising efforts.
• Oversee fundraising database and tracking systems.
• Supervise and collaborate with other fundraising staff.
• Work with the Communications Director in the creation of publications to support fund raising activities.
• Maintain gift recognition programs.
• Demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
• Perform other related duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Must embrace the mission of IIBA
• Proven track record in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major gifts from donors.
• Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
• Have knowledge and experience in fund raising techniques
• Able to work effectively with volunteers, staff and Board Members, involving them, as appropriate, in the cultivation and solicitation process for major donors.
• Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships.
• Be a “self-starter” and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
• Be organized and exhibit “follow through” on tasks and goals.
• Ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and meets firm deadlines.
• Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
• Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
• A bachelor’s degree.
• 5 years minimum experience in professional fundraising.
• Knowledge of local communities helpful.

Salary/Benefits:

In the spirit of pay transparency, the salary range for the Director of Development role is $90,000 to $130,000. If you are hired at IIBA, your final salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, and/or experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the full salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future & continued salary growth.

Please note: New employees are required to work in the office 4 days a week for the first three months of their employment with IIBA. This period is crucial for onboarding, training, and integration into IIBA’s culture. After the initial three-month period, new employees may be eligible to transition to a hybrid work schedule, subject to approval by their supervisor, the needs of the office, and in accordance with IIBA policies.
