Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (TEL HI) is seeking an experienced and passionate Director for the North Beach-Chinatown Beacon Program at Francisco Middle School. The Beacon Director will provide overall leadership, management, and strategic direction for TEL HI’s Beacon Program, which serves middle school-age youth in the North Beach-Chinatown neighborhood.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Management and Evaluation: Develop, implement, and evaluate Beacon programming in alignment with TEL HI’s mission, Department of Children, Youth and their Families (DCYF), Excellence in Children’s Education and Leadership (ExCEL) and Francisco Middle School requirements. Ensure successful delivery of youth development programs while managing partnerships with external organizations.
- Fiscal Oversight: Lead the development and management of the Beacon program’s budget, ensuring adherence to TEL HI’s budgetary guidelines in coordination with TEL HI's CFO and CEO. The Beacon Director will ensure that the Beacon program’s financials are in alignment with the organization’s broader financial strategy. This includes overseeing financial reporting and making certain that all budgetary decisions are in compliance with TEL HI’s fiscal framework to guarantee the efficient and effective use of resources.
- Reporting and Compliance: Ensure compliance with funders' requirements by preparing and submitting reports and documentation, including grant applications, progress updates, and other necessary reports for funders and stakeholders to meet all reporting deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Staff Supervision: Hire and lead a team of program manager and instructors, providing coaching, training, and performance evaluations. Ensure a positive and collaborative team environment.
- Staff Integration and Team Collaboration: Ensure the seamless integration of Beacon staff into the broader TEL HI staff team. The Beacon Director will actively participate as a member of the TEL HI Director team, fostering collaboration and synergy between the Beacon staff and all other program staff. This includes ensuring that Beacon staff actively participate in all TEL HI events, volunteer opportunities, and agency-wide initiatives. The Beacon Director’s role is to create a cohesive work environment that promotes teamwork, strengthens cross-program relationships, and supports the overall mission of TEL HI.
- Community Engagement and External Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact/representative between TEL HI and Francisco Middle School, ensuring open and consistent communication, collaboration, and alignment between both organizations. This includes fostering relationships with external partners, including DCYF and other community organizations. Represent TEL HI at various meetings and community events, advocating for the organization’s mission and promoting its initiatives.
- Director-Level Responsibilities: Ensure all program documentation is completed on time and that operational tasks are carried out efficiently. Additionally, the Beacon
Director will represent TEL HI as a whole, advocating for its mission, goals, and initiatives across various external meetings and events. The Director will also support organizational fundraising efforts and assist in event coordination, ensuring alignment with TEL HI’s broader objectives and community impact.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience (at least 5 years) in managing youth programs, with a strong track record in leadership, strategic planning, and partnership development.
- Experience in nonprofit management, including budgeting and financial oversight.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Strong commitment to community-based work and youth development.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills with a proven ability to inspire and manage a diverse team.
- Ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary starting at $90,000 - $110,000 based on experience.
