    Position Summary

    Under the supervision of the VP, Finance, the Finance Associate performs a variety of general accounting support tasks and provides administrative support to the VP, Finance.

SCG's mission is to mobilize philanthropy to learn and take bold actions by acting as a leadership hub for its members to connect, improve their grantmaking, and amplify their independent efforts through collaborative work.

    SCG is a philanthropy-supporting organization and nonprofit located in Downtown Los Angeles, California, but that champions effective philanthropy across eight Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange, Kern, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Our community includes 300 members representing the spectrum of philanthropy, including corporate giving programs, family foundations, public foundations, individual philanthropists, private, independent operating and community foundations, philanthropic advisors, government grantmakers, and grantmaking 501(c)(3) organizations.

    SCG also co-leads Philanthropy California, an initiative of Northern California Grantmakers, SoCal Grantmakers, and Catalyst of San Diego and Imperial Counties. Our alliance’s combined membership represents more than 700 philanthropic organizations investing billions every year to support communities across the state, the country, and worldwide.

    Essential duties and responsibilities:

    • Handles basic accounting functions including accounts payable and accounts receivable
    • Maintains vendors’ financial information and files
    • Prepares and handles weekly deposits, and ensures they are correctly applied to customer accounts
    • Maintains customer’s financial information
    • Reconciles invoices and addresses discrepancies
    • Responds to vendor inquiries
    • Reconciles payments received to invoices and resolves any discrepancies
    • Prepares and reviews AR Aging reports and follows up on overdue invoices
    • Provides support throughout yearly financial audit
    • Ensures that an equity lens is utilizedin all the work includingvetting vendors and in setting policies and procedures
    • Provides support for various administrative and operational tasks
    • All other duties as assigned

    Knowledge, abilities and skills:

    • Knowledge of and experience with bill.com, SalesForce and NetSuite a plus
    • General ledger knowledge and experience
    • Experience providing administrative support to management –level position
    • Detail oriented with high level of accuracy
    • Team oriented
    • Able to maintain strict confidentiality
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Experience and/or desire to work in a nonprofit environment

    Minimum education/experience:

    • Minimum two years of bookkeeping/accounting experience
    • Experience with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite
    • BA degree preferred but not necessary.
