The Lymphatic Education & Research Network is a 501(c)3 nonprofit registered in New York State. Its mission is to fight lymphatic diseases through education, research & advocacy. These include lymphedema, lipedema, and lymphatic anomalies. Up to 10 million Americans live with the incurable disease of lymphedema, including up to 30% of breast cancer survivors. An estimated 250 million people worldwide live with lymphedema. Up to 17 million women in the U.S. live with lipedema, and countless children are born with lymphatic malformation and anomalies.
LE&RN is a global leader in this field and seeks a Science and Medical Director to lead strategies focused on the organization’s mission and commitment to improving patient outcomes. This includes coordinating with LE&RN Centers of Excellence, collaborating with the medical research community, and working with our Scientific Medical Advisory Council to forge an agenda and direction for further medical and research initiatives. The Director is someone steeped in lymphatic research and treatment protocols. The Director will interact with the medical, research, and patient community as LE&RN’s primary point of contact.
The Science and Medical Director will also oversee the LE&RN Global Patient Registry, working with committee members to determine protocols and mining collected data. This would include ensuring that the internal and external resources required for success are in place and fully utilized.
The appropriate candidate will be required to represent LE&RN on the Trans-NIH Coordinating Committee, NIH meetings, and other governmental projects and meetings that further lymphatic research agendas.
The Science and Medical Director will lead the writing of various documents and reports and collaborate with experts in the field to ensure that all information is fully vetted for accuracy and timeliness. The Director will also work with the editor of LE&RN’s journal and oversee LE&RN’s updates, which are published in each edition.
The Science and Medical Director reports to the CEO and collaborates with the Deputy Director, Communications Director, Media Director, and Design Director in a team effort to produce results. The position seeks a trailblazer with original ideas and a passion for our mission. A qualified candidate must have a history of success working with the research and medical community. The position is remote and does not require living in any designated location in the United States. Weekly video conferencing meetings with the leadership team and daily contact with staff as needed.
