About the Position
We are seeking a proactive, experienced advocate, who has deep experience working with communities in Africa to join our global legal and policy team. The Africa Legal and Policy Associate will play an instrumental role in accompanying and supporting civil society partners and communities in engaging effectively in accountability and grievance redress processes and advocating for their rights with a range of actors, including government officials, corporations, financiers, and investors. They will contribute to IDI's case work within the African region, including through supporting advocacy efforts and participating in ongoing accountability processes with companies and development finance institutions.
In particular, as part of IDI's work advocating for a just energy transition, this position will join IDI teams focused on stopping a major harmful fossil fuel project and supporting communities both at risk and already affected by a large-scale transition minerals mining project.
Based on the experience of the candidate, there may be opportunities to contribute to policy advocacy and campaigns, especially to advance a just energy transition by defending and promoting the rights of communities at risk of displacement by transition mineral mining.
The Legal and Policy Associate reports to the Senior Legal and Policy Associate.
French and English fluency (or at minimum, professional proficiency) is a requirement for this position in order to support both French-speaking and English-speaking groups.

The Associate will support IDI's ongoing case work within the African continent, particularly in Guinea and Uganda. This includes:

Compensation and Benefits:
Inclusive Development International is committed to providing competitive, equitable and transparent compensation for staff. The salary range for this role is commensurate with experience and adjusted for geographic cost of living in accordance with our Compensation Framework. The salary range is $37,200 - $54,900 USD for a Nairobi-based candidate. For candidates based in higher cost of living settings, the salary range may be $49,600 to $73,000. For candidates with significantly more experience, placement in a higher compensation band may be possible. Working Arrangement:
The majority of Inclusive Development International's team is globally dispersed and works on a fully remote basis. Our main office is located in North Carolina, USA. We have staff members in Conakry, Guinea and Nairobi, Kenya within the African continent. This position is open to applicants based in Africa, with a preference for Nairobi.
You must have obtained legal authorization to work and live in the country from which you wish to work. Inclusive Development International is unable to sponsor work visas.
Travel:
Some local and international travel is expected for this position, primarily within Africa.
