    JOB SUMMARY

CMDC is seeking a compassionate and highly organized Re-entry Program Coordinator to oversee the administration of the re-entry mediation program. Re-entry mediation provides an opportunity for a justice-involved individual and family members or other support people to meet before release with a non-judgmental mediator. Mediators are trained volunteers from the community who are supported and mentored by CMDC staff. Mediation creates a safe space for dialogue and strengthens relationships to support successful re-entry.

This is a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference to residents of the jail and their families and support the transition back into the community.

The Re-entry Program Coordinator is responsible for all phases of coordinating re-entry mediation including performing intake, scheduling mediation sessions, mediating as needed, and case management data entry and reporting. The Coordinator also supports partnership development, including with the DC Department of Corrections, and engagement and recruitment of volunteers. This position is a mix of detailed administrative work and engaging in-person facilitation and dialogue.

    What You’ll Do:

    • Conduct in-person intake presentations and coordinate intake at DC-based correctional facilities.
    • Coordinate all re-entry mediation cases including collecting information from residents of the jail, contacting outside participants, coordinating security clearance and mediation space with the correctional facility, and other case management duties.
    • Contact and support volunteer mediators providing relevant details, managing logistics, and providing mentorship as needed to support the mediation.
    • Conduct mediations in-person as needed at the correctional facility and other locations in and around DC.
    • Partner with correctional facility leadership and maintain a mutually beneficial relationship to ensure ongoing access and smooth communication.
    • Communicate regularly with the CMDC team on case status and issues and monitor the status of all mediation cases, keeping participants informed, and following up on cases.
    • Maintain and update case management records and online data systems.
    • Partner and develop relationships with other re-entry agencies and coordinate conflict management workshops. Deliver conflict management workshops to residents of the jail and to community-based re-entry groups.
    • Assist with ongoing recruitment of mediators and ambassadors. Present about re-entry mediation to partners including in-person outreach at partner locations.
    • Provide back-up for the Mediation & Training Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator and assist the team as needed.
    • Other duties as required

    What We’re Looking For:

    • You are comfortable working in a correctional facility and closely with people impacted by the justice system.
    • You are committed to non-violent, collaborative conflict resolution.
    • You are highly organized with demonstrated ability to multitask and prioritize.
    • You have excellent computer skills including experience using Microsoft office and Google Worksuite, and a willingness to quickly learn new systems.
    • You are an active listener with excellent interpersonal skills and have lived experience working with people of diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
    • You have high attention to detail.
    • You’re a self-starter who takes initiative, welcomes feedback, and looks for ways to make improvements.
    • You have proven ability to respect and protect client confidentiality

    Position Requirements:

    • If you are hired, you will be required to complete the Community Mediation Maryland’s 45-hour Basic Mediation Training as part of the position.
    • You must pass the DC Department of Corrections’ Volunteer Application Process as a condition of employment.
    • You must be able to travel locally within Washington, DC and in Maryland.
    • Work hours are flexible but will include occasional evenings and weekends.
