    The Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a food pantry program that provides food supplies once per week for approximately 600 people. On Tuesdays from 2-5pm we operate a food pantry where bags of groceries and prepared meals are distributed to individuals and families in need. The Director is also responsible for the provision of one cooked meal per week as part of our Community Meal program for 200 guests on Saturdays. The director reports to the Board of Directors and has several part time employees and a dedicated group of volunteers to manage during the week.

    Job description:

    The Director is responsible for the overall management and running of the entire program. The duties include the following:

    1. Order food for the pantry and the hot meal programs and coordinate delivery and receipt of food items from various sources. Solicit food donations from various markets and distributors.
    2. Keep track of inventory and arrange for storage of food items, especially those requiring refrigeration in keeping with DOH regulations.
    3. Plan the menu for the hot cooked meal program and order food items. Coordinate with and manage the Chefs and volunteers for this weekly program.
    4. Coordinate volunteer programs through agencies and providers, especially NY Cares. Work closely with NY Cares program coordinator.
    5. Set volunteers’ schedules and manage volunteer activities, in person on site during the food delivery and distribution hours.
    6. Coordinate client food pick-up and greet clients.
    7. Coordinate the sorting and distribution of clothing donations during food pick-up hours.
    8. Prepare budgets and financial reports in conjunction with the Treasurer of the Board as required for reporting to various government agencies.
    9. Communicate with church employees and coordinate schedules of shared spaces with the church.
    10. Liaison with City and Country Day School which provides student volunteers for a school run public service program. s
    11. Communicate and build relationships with neighborhood and governmental organizations to generate interest and support in the work of the pantry.
    12. Search for grant opportunities and work closely with consultants when applying for grants.
    13. Handle food safety inspections.
    14. Attend seminars hosted by various agencies.
    15. Host various groups for meal preparation events.

    Requirements:

    • College Graduate
    • Some relevant food service experience or equivalent is desirable.
    • Good understanding of Business Requirement Gathering, Business Process Workflow and Modelling.
    • Good people and communication skills.
    • Some business document skills, including Word, Excel, etc.

    Location:

    The pantry is currently located in a space provided at The Church of the Village, Seventh Avenue and 13th Street, New York City.

    Salary:

    $ 80,000 to $100,000, depending on experience.
