International Collaborator

International Collaborators are members of Rostro de Cristo’s (RdC) paid Fellowship Program in Consuelo, Dominican Republic. They are social justice leaders grounded by an active spirituality and will collaborate and support a local NGO, ASCALA (Asociación Scalabriniana al Servicio de la Movilidad Humana). ASCALA is team of over 30 Dominican, Haitian, and religious professionals dedicated to providing services to defend human rights and promote human and social development for vulnerable migrants, most principally Haitian residents and immigrants, and Dominicans of Haitian descent living in the areas many bateyes (on sugarcane plantations). Founded over 20 years ago by the Scalabrini Sisters, ASCALA works on initiatives that improve the lives of migrants and their children through legal aid, education, entrepreneurship training and support, and social services.

Qualified Candidates will:

• At least one-year full-time international/intercultural volunteer and/or living experience.
• Strong desire to nurture in self and others a faith that works for justice, an active spirituality, and commitment to positive social change.
• Advanced bilingual skills in Spanish and English, and strong intercultural communication skills. Training in DEIB is highly desired.
• Experience in pastoral ministry, social work, education, or other nonprofit services.
• Bachelor’s degree (required). Graduate degree in theology, pastoral ministry, education, social work, law, international development, or related fields helpful but not required.
• Commit to a minimum of 10 months, preferably longer.

Rostro de Cristo will provide compensation to live comfortably in the Dominican Republic and assist student loans payments for those with student loan debt. Full benefits include health insurance and two weeks of paid vacation plus two weeks off during the holiday season. Fellows will have shared use of a vehicle in-country for work and some local travel. Rostro de Cristo will cover airfare for personal travel to and from the Dominican Republic to the United States per year.
