About the Position:

Working as Community Outreach Coordinator, you'll play an important role in helping us carry out our Community Initiatives, which focus on addressing community needs, especially around health equity. Your work will directly support our mission to change the way the community approaches death, dying, and end-of-life issues. By connecting with new and existing community partners, you’ll have a meaningful impact on HSB’s growth and outreach. This is a temporary position (approx. 3-6 months) that could lead into a regular position.

A key part of your role will be supporting our Advance Care Planning (ACP) program. This will involve working with local partners to integrate ACP into community systems, helping to run an ongoing bilingual public relations campaign, supporting a team of community facilitators, and conducting educational workshops in both English and Spanish. You’ll also build relationships with healthcare, community, and government partners to ensure the program’s success and sustainability. Don’t worry— you’ll receive plenty of training and support to help you succeed in this role.

This position is perfect for someone who is passionate about social change, health equity, and making a real difference in people’s lives at a critical time. This is a full-time role (30-40 hours per week). Essential duties are as follows:

• Support the Advance Care Planning (ACP) Program: Help launch and grow a community-wide ACP program by building and nurturing relationships with local partners like non-profits, healthcare providers, senior care organizations, and college nursing programs.
• Plan and Coordinate Workshops: Assist in planning and organizing educational workshops for the community in both English and Spanish. These workshops will focus on ACP and may also cover topics like grief and general HSB programs. You’ll work closely with partners to make sure the workshops meet community needs.
• Outreach, Marketing, and Promotion: Help spread the word about ACP by creating and sharing materials like flyers, articles, and social media posts (in both English and Spanish). You'll also help promote individual events to make sure people know about them.
• Recruit and Train Volunteers: Work with the Community Initiatives Manager and Volunteer Department to recruit and train volunteers, especially Spanish-speaking volunteers, to help support the ACP program and other community projects.
• Build Partnerships: Develop and maintain strong relationships with community groups, healthcare professionals, and government organizations to support the ACP program. You may also represent HSB at local meetings, forums, and committees related to end-of-life care, senior services, and healthcare.
• Engage the Community: Look for new ways to connect with potential partners and expand the ACP program to more people in the community.
• Advocacy and Ambassadorship: Be a passionate advocate for ACP, helping to educate the public about its importance for everyone, no matter their stage in life.
• Provide Operational Support: Help HSB’s community initiatives grow by tracking your activities and ensuring all information is well-organized and up-to-date.

What You’ll Need:

• Bilingual (English/Spanish): Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both languages.
• High School degree or equivalent: No formal degree required, but relevant work experience is a plus.
• 1+ years of experience in related work: Experience in areas such as community outreach, relationship-building, or supporting health-related initiatives is helpful, but not required.
• Interest in Advance Care Planning (ACP): Previous knowledge of ACP is helpful but not necessary—we’ll train you!
• Comfortable using basic office tools: Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Zoom, and Google Drive tools.
• Strong communication skills: Ability to communicate clearly in writing and speaking (in both English and Spanish) and present ideas to different groups.
• Organization and time management: Ability to stay organized, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines with a strong attention to detail.
• Self-motivated: A positive, proactive attitude—able to work independently and take initiative after receiving training.
• Compassionate and interpersonal skills: Sensitivity to the needs of others and the ability to connect with people and partners in a friendly, empathetic way.
• Creative and resourceful: Ability to help promote HSB’s programs and think of new ways to engage the community.
• Team player: Willingness to work cooperatively with colleagues, partners, and volunteers to help support the mission of HSB.
• Flexible availability and reliable transportation: Occasional evening and weekend work will be needed for some events and meetings.
