Young adults in our program receive hard and soft skill training, career coaching, barrier reduction services (food, housing/mental health care referrals), academic support and paid work experience in our businesses.

    Over 99% of young adults (17-26) entering Hopeworks are unemployed. After completion, they earn over $44,000 annually, with a 12-month retention rate of over 90% in their jobs. That is the Hopeworks difference.

    Position Description

    The primary role of the Part-Time Instructor is to cultivate a dynamic and supportive learning environment for youth in Hopeworks’ programs. This position centers on enhancing students’ academic reading skills through the integration of science and social studies content, as well as improving their paragraph writing abilities with a focus on correct grammar usage. These efforts are aimed at helping students achieve their high school diploma and boost their employment prospects.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop engaging lessons using to improve students' reading comprehension and critical thinking skills.
    • Employ diverse teaching strategies such as whole group instruction, small group work, and interactive activities to address various learning needs.
    • Create lessons that connect academic concepts to enhance students' reading abilities and make learning more contextualized and relevant.
    • Collaborate closely with the Program Director and contribute to all aspects of the program, including maintaining accurate student records in the Salesforce management system.
    • Participate in Trauma-Informed activities and embrace the principles associated with Trauma-Informed Care.
    • Ensure timely and accurate reporting of student attendance, progress, and outcomes.

    Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, reading, science, social studies, or a related field, required.
    • Master’s degree, preferably in education or a relevant subject area, preferred.
    • At least 3-5 years of experience and a passion for working with youth, particularly those with significant trauma histories.
    • Ability to provide differentiated instruction and contextualized reading, science, social studies, and writing lessons.
    • Strong writing and oral communication skills.

    • Is goal-oriented and tracks progress through measurable outcomes.
    • Acts as a motivator and coach, managing both individual relationships and group dynamics effectively.

    • Number of high school diplomas earned.
