    Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization, holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.

    Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization, is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most.

    Make the Road States (MRstates), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations that serve to uplift the voices of working-class immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color.

    Current Opening:

    The supervising attorney maintains an active docket of immigration cases, including those in removal proceedings and other complex litigation. The supervising attorney will support a team of at least 2 FTE team members, including staff attorneys and paralegals authorized to represent clients directly. The supervising attorney is responsible for general oversight of a significant portion of the team legal practice, and is directly responsible for overseeing compliance (including reporting and site visits) and managing key funder relationships.

    Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

    GENERAL DUTIES

    • Supervise at least 4 FTEs in their immigration practice, ensuring the provision of quality legal services. You will be tasked to develop their professional development and growth, and facilitate the support of relevant organizing efforts around immigration and other organizing efforts.
    • Provide individualized assistance to clients currently in removal proceedings or eligible for immigration relief in a broad range of categories including SIJ, Asylum, U/T visas, cancellation of removal and others. This includes staying up to date on developments in the law.
    • Coordinate and assist in community and staff education efforts including through the creation of written materials, KYR presentations, and popular education workshops
    • Support MRNV members and organizing campaigns by strategizing on policy, through strategic litigation, legislative advocacy, research, media and action support
    • Coordinate immigration team meetings, professional development, and strategy (arc of team's work) as well as assist to plan and execute department-wide initiatives including helping to manage legal department systems that ensure effective intake, case management, and general functioning of MRNV’s legal practice.
    • Management of multiple key immigration grants, and work closely with the legal grants manager to report on case data and deliverables generally.
    • Coordinate immigrant justice and comms team's response to new policy developments and new legal needs, including providing information about policy changes across the team, understanding team capacity across the offices, shifting and prioritizing work accordingly, and organizing any events necessary for our response.
    • Play a key role in department fundraising efforts and grants management work
    • Help maintain connections with immigration legal services community by attending task force meetings, trainings, etc.
    • Continuously build an understanding of movement lawyering techniques, emerging immigration legal strategies, and racialized capitalism (as at play within the immigration legal system and within MRNV)

    ON THE GROUND:

    • Work in partnership with the Member Services Director to establish systems that allow for efficient, secure, and accurate case management
    • Work in support of the membership of MRNV while also engaging in KYR workshops with coalition partners and other stakeholders
    • Work with the Communications Director to ensure MRNV is providing accurate, factual, and timely information regarding immigration policy and law
    • Recruit and provide support and guidance to MRNV’s team of paralegals who will be based in Las Vegas and Reno
    • Meet with elected officials and other key stakeholders on behalf of the organization and members to advance policy priorities and campaigns
    • Serve as a key support to MRNV’s members during moments of critical legal need
    • Engage other legal practitioners and attorneys in Nevada to help foster relationships with other movement lawyers

    Requirements:

    • Eligible to work in the US
    • Required to be fully vaccinated with a FDA approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
    • Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Nevada
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change
    • Must have experience in immigration case law for a minimum of three years
    • Bilingual: English-Spanish (written and spoken) is required
    • Able to meet deadlines with simultaneous projects
    • Must show a dedication to improving the quality of life for immigrants and working-class Nevadans and creating a pipeline of leaders from our local community

    Salary and Benefits:

    MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $79,500 to $91,500.
