Looking to help save the planet? Join us at THIS! Is What We Did (THIS!).

We at THIS! are committed to fighting to stop the devastation fossil fuels have on our planet. We educate and engage people to join the climate movement and thereby be able to answer the Ultimate Question our descendants will surely ask: “What did you do to fight climate change?” with “THIS! Is What We Did.”

    The Job

Lyrissa Barnett Lidsky said, “There is no pleasure on earth like the pleasure of working on a great team.” THIS! Is What We Did (THIS!) is seeking a motivated, hard-working, and talented individual to join our team and help make it better.

The Digital Marketing and Communications Specialist is a part-time, remote, independent contractor position offering flexible hours and potential for growth within the organization.

We seek someone who can work independently as well as effectively with volunteers, help grow the organization, and who sees our situation as an open field for growth in impact to save the habitability of the only planet we have.

This is 3-month contract position at 20 hours/week with the potential for extension and more hours. Our hope is to find someone who is a great fit and transition them into a permanent role. This position will work collaboratively with and report to the Climate Advocacy Program Manager.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Develop and manage all digital content, including:
      • Social media (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, with potential for other platforms)
      • Mailchimp newsletters and donor communications
      • Website content and blog posts (proficiency in Wordpress is a plus)
      • Marketing materials (reports, toolkits, briefs)
    • Design compelling graphics and visuals using Canva
    • Create and maintain a communications calendar to ensure timely and strategic content release
    • Develop engaging, mission-driven storytelling that resonates with donors and supporters, in collaboration with the Climate Advocacy Program Manager
    • Monitor performance metrics (online engagement and traffic, program signups, donations) and adjust strategies accordingly
    • Further establish and implement THIS! branding and identity
    • Attend team planning meetings, Board meetings, support online events, and assist with other marketing-related tasks as needed
    • Availability: Some evening (Pacific Time) availability required for meetings and online events

    Qualifications:

Note: Although we specify what we are looking for, we may miss other attributes and skills that you have that could make you a great fit. Research has shown that women and individuals who are not part of the dominant culture tend to apply if they can check 100% of every box, versus men who often apply if they hit roughly 60%. So, it doesn’t hurt to take a chance and apply! As hockey Hall-of-Famer Wayne Gretzky said, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

    • 2+ years experience in a digital marketing or communications role (nonprofit experience preferred)
    • Social media management experience (Instagram, Facebook; LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube)
    • Strong skills in Canva (graphic design principles a plus)
    • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and get things done
    • Comfortable in a highly collaborative, small-team environment
    • Excellent writing and editing skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Dedicated to staying current with professional knowledge and industry best practices
    • A deep commitment to the fight to save our only planet
    • Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection and webcam

    Desired Capabilities/Nice to Have:

(Note: We seek capability not credentials. We aim to hire someone who can do the job.)

    • Digital advertising (Meta Ads Manager, Google Ads)
    • Public relations strategy and execution
    • A Teachable Spirit with a determination to learn, improve and grow
    • Relevant experience in social justice efforts
    • Ability to work well with a variety of people and recharge their and your own emotional battery
