SEIU 925 is a dynamic, growing union of education professionals across Washington. We are looking for a Researcher/Data Analyst who is excited to build power with child care workers of all backgrounds, races, and genders. Does that describe you?

    About us:

The Service Employees International Union Local 925 (SEIU 925) is 19,000 working people united to improve our jobs and our communities. We are education workers and public sector workers across Washington state. This is an exciting time to be part of the labor movement: baristas, teachers, janitors, and now child care workers are standing together and demanding their share of the richest economy in the world.

Our union believes we can’t have economic justice without racial justice. Applicants should have a passion for justice-based organizing and commitment to the power of organized labor.

    About you:

Applicants should have a passion for social justice organizing and recognize that child care is a pillar of the economy. This will involve working with child care workers from across the state, with a focus in the greater Puget Sound region. This is a full time project field position working with a diverse statewide membership. A driver’s license and a car is required.

    What is the job?

    • Researching the internal structure and financials of a corporate, public, or non-profit employer
    • Engaging with workers through site visits, interviews, surveys, networking, attending public meetings and industry events
    • Creating accessible research presentations and data sets for a wide variety of audiences, including childcare workers
    • Analyzing union density in various markets to help identify potential organizing targets
    • Researching and tracking public funding
    • Assisting in the building of worker lists for the purposes of organizing, using data scraping of online directories, public records requests, and other methods
    • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of data systems and standards for the campaign
    • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of coherent, accessible campaign and training documentation

    Qualifications:

    • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a field such as public policy, economics, business, or a social science
    • A demonstrated commitment to social, racial, and economic justice
    • Experience in collaborating on strategic/corporate campaigns in support of organizing and/or bargaining
    • Excellent writing and communication skills;
    • Experience with a variety of computer-based research tools; proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint
    • Quantitative analytical skills, including familiarity with basic financial concepts and financial analysis
    • Ability to work well under tight deadlines with multiple, shifting priorities, and a willingness to pivot with little notice
    • Willingness to work long, irregular hours, often including evenings and weekends

This position will require evening and weekend work. The main SEIU 925 office is in Seattle, but our members are statewide, and this position may be asked for short term travel as the campaign requires. A driver’s license, a car and proof of insurance, proof of COVID-19 vaccination, and a passion for organized labor power are required.
