    About Us: The Massachusetts Immigrant Collaborative (the M.I.C. or ‘the Collaborative’) was born out of a need to address inequities faced by immigrant communities during the COVID-19 pandemic. Founded in April 2020 and inspired by the Boston Mayor’s Office for Immigrant Advancement, the Collaborative began with 11 Boston-based immigration services organizations. Today, the M.I.C. is a diverse statewide collective of 15 organizations, united in our mission to ensure access to vital resources for historically under-resourced immigrant communities, especially the most vulnerable.

    Job Title: Immigration Attorney

    Role Type: Full-time, Exempt. 1 year position, to be reviewed and possibly extended.

    Salary Range: $90,000-100,000 with comprehensive benefits

    About the Role: The M.I.C. is ready for an Immigration Attorney to join our centralized immigration legal services program, leading us in increasing our reach and impact through emergency immigration legal response, expanded centralized immigration legal programming, and capacity building, to provide immigration legal aid to more M.I.C. constituents. The Collaborative Immigration Attorney will work closely with our 4 legal partner organizations- Agencia ALPHA, Immigrant Family Services Institute (IFSI), Rian Immigrant Center, and Mabel Center for Immigrant Justice- to expand our centralized immigration legal service program’s impact. Expertise in immigration legal services, coupled with leadership skills, will be crucial in guiding our statewide initiatives and ensuring that our immigration legal services program continues to meet the evolving needs of the communities we serve.

    Responsibilities:

    Leadership & Management:

    • Maintain working relationships with legal partner organizations, fostering legal partner engagement and connection to the M.I.C.’s strategic priorities, and addressing the legal needs of community members statewide. Actively convene, engage, and energize legal partners, working groups, funders and other collaborators.
    • Oversee M.I.C. centralized immigration legal program full representation cases.
    • Ensure effective systems for tracking progress on initiatives while regularly assessing programming successes and challenges so as to inform timely adaptations and accurate reporting to the partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
    • Oversee budgets, quarterly reports for the Steering Committee, and collaborate on grant reporting with the Development Director.

    Fundraising & Communications:

    • Deepen and refine all aspects of immigration legal communications and advocacy. Including: press coverage, web presence, partner communications, and external relations. Engage with public education to increase awareness and support; inform policy makers on immigration, including legislative initiatives. Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.

    Planning & New Initiatives:

    • Build more public and private partnerships across immigration legal services providers and supporting sectors. Expand on existing and build new relationships with funders, elected officials and community leaders associated with each area of growth.
    • Be a strong local and state-wide presence, reporting on and communicating with the M.I.C. and partners all immigration legal services program results with an emphasis on the successes and lessons drawn, as a model for regional, state-wide and national inspiration and replication.

    General:

    • Be prepared to help plan rapid response legal clinics, engaging our 4 legal partners, external partners, and volunteers. Serve as a resource to legal partners, available to provide support upon request.
    • Present Know your Rights workshops in a language other than English, with question and answer periods at the end, to community members at all M.I.C. community facing events, which may be on weekends and evenings. At these events, be prepared to join a legal partner’s team to give immigration legal consultations in a language other than English to community members, to answer constituents’ individual questions.
    • Licensed attorney in the state of Massachusetts with experience representing diverse indigent clients in immigration court. Track record of helping clients who face barriers to accessing legal aid apply for and receive humanitarian immigration relief

    Location: Boston, MA. Travel throughout the state and possibly to other states.

    Location Type: Flexible Hybrid - We offer a hybrid work model that allows for flexibility in your daily schedule. Please note: Candidates will need to be able to attend in-person meetings and events in the Greater Boston area on a regular basis, and will need to have a reliable means of transportation.

We will require that a candidate has a deep commitment to the Collaboratives’ mission, knowledge of the immigration services field, and proven leadership, coaching, fundraising, and relationship management skills. High priority will be given to candidates with lived an immigrant experience in the U.S., preferably in Massachusetts.
