    Position Title: Education and Trip Coordinator

    Reports to: Designated Board Member or Executive Director

    Classification: Exempt, Full-time (40 Hours / Week)

    Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

    The Education and Trip Coordinator supports American Lands Project’s work to plan and conduct trips, while also convening with nonprofit partners and providing additional education opportunities about America’s public lands. Duties and responsibilities include helping to develop detailed trip itineraries, arranging travel logistics, preparing briefing materials for trip participants, and drafting any pre-trip and post-trip paperwork for congressional Ethics offices for congressional trip guests. The Education and Trip Coordinator may attend or lead some trips. The Education and Trip Coordinator will stay abreast of public lands issues nationally and regularly connect with coalition partners for updates to better identify how American Lands Project’s trips and educational opportunities can most effectively raise awareness and engage policy and community leaders. The Coordinator will help brainstorm business, nonprofit, and congressional guests that could benefit from an educational trip.At times, the Education and Trip Coordinator will contact federal offices to discuss trip logistics or policy background. The Education & Trip Coordinator will plan other education opportunities for community members like movie showings or speaker talks at times. The Coordinator will also identify areas for programmatic growth and assist with outreach to potential new partners and philanthropic supporters.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Ability to organize and manage diverse activities with many details and set priorities. Accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse external audiences like colleagues, coalition partners, businesses, airlines, nonprofits, and federal or state offices.
    • Ability to be flexible and efficiently pivot when travel plans change quickly due to plane delays, weather, a speaker cancelation, or other challenges. Ability to anticipate necessary changes for guest travel and have a “Plan B” always prepared.
    • Ability to understand urgency and then follow through on commitments in a timely manner.
    • Commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, inclusion and justice.
    • Demonstrated ability to learn new policy issues quickly and summarize important considerations for internal and external audiences.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at times.
    • Fluency in English.
    • Excellent writing skills.
    • Intermediate skills with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as the Google Suite, Zoom, Slack, and Garmin inReach communication devices.
    • Willingness to be flexible with working hours during peak periods, currently May through October.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The following aren’t necessary to apply, but please mention your experience in your cover letter if any apply to you.

    • Bachelor’s degree with experience, coursework, or other training in natural resource policy, public or Tribal lands management, government relations, political science, climate policy, or outdoor leadership.
    • Experience guiding outdoor trips or personally exploring public lands in some way.
    • Previous experience working with nonprofit coalitions, the offices of elected officials, and government agencies.
    • Previous experience working with Indigenous and rural communities.
    • Experience researching and synthesizing information from a variety of sources.
    • Experience in nonprofit operations, including familiarity with QuickBooks, invoice payment, credit card reconciliation, payroll, benefits administration, preparing city/state/federal filings.

    Location, Physical Requirements and Travel

    American Lands Project is currently based in Seattle, Washington. Remote work may be considered for exceptional candidates who can demonstrate strong independent work habits and effective communication. This position will be expected to participate in out-of-state travel, estimated at a total of approximately 4-6 weeks annually.

    This position is also subject to some activities beyond the typical conditions of an indoor professional office setting. Participation in potential trips will occasionally require employees to lift and move up to 50 pounds, hike several miles, and camp/remain outdoors in remote locations for multiple days at a time in a range of temperatures and diverse weather conditions. American Land Project will provide reasonable accommodations for people who are differently abled to perform the essential functions.

    Salary & Benefits

    Salary Range $75,000-$95,000. Salary commensurate with experience. Competitive vacation, sick, health and retirement benefits.
