    Make the Road States (MRStates) is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations in Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Nevada, this in addition to New York, that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color across the Make the Roads umbrella. From an operational spectrum it serves as the Finance and Human Resources Compliance Officers for the umbrella at large.

    Make the Road Connecticut, is a statewide organization that builds the power of immigrants and low-income Latinx in Bridgeport and Hartford to achieve dignity and justice. We do this by community organizing, legal and survival services, transformative education, and policy innovation. We tackle the issues that directly impact our communities of color: immigration reform, economic justice, education equity, LGBTQ justice, womxn's justice, and youth justice.     The Development and Operations department plays a critical role in the functioning and success of the organization, with the Operations Department focusing more on the day-to-day operations and project management, while the Development and Programs Department focuses on fundraising, program development, and impact assessment.

    Current Opening:

    We seek 1 Community Education Coordinator to engage with immigrant, Latinx, and low-income communities on improving access to high-quality, culturally competent healthcare and navigating benefits including CT Paid Leave. The Community Education Coordinator will engage in outreach to educate community members on important information such as expanded Husky coverage for undocumented individuals, CT Paid Leave, as well as other community health resources. This includes targeted phone- and text-banking, as well as street canvassing and other in-person or virtual events. Together with the Hartford Community Organizers and Community Health Worker in Bridgeport, they will strategize best practices, and identify key locations to engage “hard to reach” populations. Additionally, they connect clients and community members to all MRCT events and campaigns, and the MRCT mission to create collective community power. The Community Education Coordinator will provide their neighbors with important health and benefits information and application assistance, and service referrals, and serve as a bridge to our advocacy and organizing efforts.

    Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

    • Assist community members in accessing healthcare services and navigating the Husky insurance application process.
    • Provide health resources and service referrals to individuals and families.
    • Share current information related to COVID-19, Husky expansion, and other health and benefits updates.
    • Support community members in accessing resources for food, housing, and other basic needs through referrals.
    • Educate community members about the Connecticut Paid Leave (CTPL) benefits and application process.
    • Provide direct assistance with CTPL benefit applications and follow-up support.
    • Share CTPL resources through various channels, including online, telephone, social media, and in-person.
    • Host and facilitate workshops, events, and trainings related to CTPL benefits.
    • Collaborate with CTPL Authority to identify and address outreach gaps.
    • Complete data entry on a regular basis and assist Development and Programs staff with reporting efforts.
    • Refer community members to MRCT organizing and advocacy campaigns if they wish to get involved
    • Attend all required staff meetings and trainings
    • Coordinate with Community Organizers on joint initiatives
    • Represent MRCT at statewide and local coalition tables related to the work

    Requirements:

    • Eligible to work in the US
    • Required to be fully vaccinated with an FDA-approved COVID-19 vaccine prior first day of employment.
    • This is a mid-level position. A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience working in health or community outreach work or a community member with leadership skills and experience working in immigrant, Latinx, and black communities is preferred.
    • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development, and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change.
    • Be open and flexible to work evenings and weekends as needed.
    • Basic understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite
    • Basic computer literacy
    • Must be able to comfortably read, write and speak English and Spanish
    • Ability to travel between Hartford and Bridgeport when necessary
    • Required to work from home and satellite offices as needed.
    • This role is full-time, with the potential for training and growth within the organization as the project advances.

    Salary and Benefits:

    MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days. The salary range for this position is from $20.64 to $23.74
