REP Play Coach

Do you have experience working with children in a classroom, at a camp, in an afterschool program or on a playing field?

Are you energetic, positive, AND experienced in youth athletics, passionate about sports and play?

Are you available Monday through Friday between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm, 2 to 4 hours a day?

Are you willing to travel to schools in Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens?

Asphalt Green is a well- known non-profit sports and fitness complex on the Upper East Side of Manhattan (1750 York Ave. at E 91st Street). We are looking for experienced coaches for our Recess Enhancement Program (REP) for the 2024-2025 school year. The program operates from September 2024 to June 2025 and runs during recess at 60 NYC public elementary schools across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, and Queens. Children may range in age from 3 to 11.

What are the Play Coach Duties?

• Lead recess sessions, introducing children to new games.
• Help children resolve conflicts positively.
• Attend professional development meetings, held at Asphalt Green, to share strategies and learn new games.

Successful candidates will undergo fingerprinting by the NYC DOE, with costs covered by Asphalt Green. Employment offers are contingent upon clearance from the NYC DOE Personnel Eligibility Tracking System (PETS), required before beginning work in NYC DOE schools or affiliated locations.

Group interviews will be held in the coming weeks, where candidates be asked to demonstrate a recess game to other candidates.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with youth in an athletic/large group setting (classroom, at a camp, in an afterschool program or on a playing field).
• Willing and able to travel to schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens.
• Experience in NYC public schools or work with at-risk youth is a plus.
• Energetic, positive, dynamic and reliable!
• Enjoy playing sports and games!
• Leadership skills, independence and a passion for working with children.
