Position Overview
The Executive Director (ED) serves as the chief executive officer of SHARE Baltimore and is responsible for overseeing the administration, strategic direction, and execution of the organization’s mission. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the ED will manage all aspects of the organization’s operations, including leadership, financial sustainability, program development, community engagement, and organizational growth. This role requires a visionary leader who is passionate about affordable housing, land stewardship, community ownership and community empowerment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Direction
- Lead the development and execution of the organization’s strategic plan, ensuring alignment with the mission and goals of the Community Land Trust (CLT).
- Provide visionary leadership that ensures the long-term success, sustainability, and growth of the organization.
- Serve as the key spokesperson for the organization, promoting the CLT model, engaging with stakeholders, and enhancing the organization's visibility and reputation in the community.
Board of Directors Support
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors to set policy, long-term goals, and the organization’s strategic direction.
- Prepare regular reports and updates for the Board, ensuring they are informed on financial status, program developments, and key initiatives.
- Assist with Board recruitment, orientation, and development to strengthen the governance structure.
Financial Management
- Oversee the development and management of the annual budget and ensure financial sustainability through diversified revenue streams.
- Lead fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant writing, sponsorships, and securing major gifts to support organizational programs and operations.
- Ensure compliance with all financial policies, legal requirements, and reporting standards.
Program Development and Oversight
- Lead the development, execution, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services, ensuring they align with the needs of the community.
- Oversee housing, development, construction, and property management activities to ensure the delivery of affordable housing options and community ownership of residential and commercial properties.
- Establish and maintain partnerships with public, private, and community-based organizations to enhance program delivery and expand the CLT model.
Operations and Human Resources
- Manage day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring efficient use of resources and personnel.
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance evaluation of staff, ensuring a positive work environment that fosters growth, innovation, and inclusion.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, and maintain appropriate policies for risk management.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
- Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, residents, partners, and local government to advance the mission of the CLT.
- Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote affordable housing, land stewardship, community ownership and sustainable community development.
- Organize and lead community outreach efforts, workshops, and educational programs to promote the benefits of the CLT model and community ownership to empower Baltimore residents.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, public administration, urban planning, business administration, or related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5-7 years of leadership experience in a nonprofit, housing, or community development organization.
- Demonstrated experience in fundraising, grant writing, and resource development, with a proven track record of securing funding from diverse sources.
- Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, financial planning, and reporting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders.
- Experience with affordable housing, land trusts, community ownership or community development preferred.
- Understanding of legal and financial issues related to land ownership, housing and commercial development, and nonprofit management.
- Proven ability to lead and manage a team, with strong skills in human resources, organizational development, and conflict resolution.
- Passion for community empowerment, social equity, and housing justice.

Work Environment
- This position operates in a professional office environment but may require off-site travel to meetings, events, and community engagements.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
