    The Squash and Education Alliance seeks an Accounting and Operations Manager to assist the Director of Operations and Finance in overseeing daily accounting and bookkeeping activities, financial planning, and operational efficiency. This role requires strong accounting expertise, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of nonprofit financial management. Reporting directly to the Director, the Accounting & Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in helping SEA achieve its mission while contributing to a positive and productive workplace. Key responsibilities include:

    Accounting Management

    • Manage SEA’s accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and fixed assets.
    • Review and process cash disbursements, ensuring proper allocations and documentation.
    • Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and ensure the timely closing of the general ledger at month-end.
    • Prepare monthly financial statements, including statement of activities, statements of financial position, cash flow statements, and variance analysis.
    • Monitor cash flow and make recommendations to maximize the organization’s financial resources.
    • Process and manage employee payroll and manage employee benefit activities such as 401(k) contributions.
    • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards, including preparation and coordination of annual audits in coordination with independent auditors.

    Finance Management

    • Collaborate with the Director of Operations and Finance, support the preparation and monitoring of the organization's annual budget, including departmental and project-specific budgets, as needed.
    • Monitor spending across multiple funding sources and provide adjustments to ensure alignment with budgetary goals.
    • Oversee tax filings and regulatory compliance.
    • Assist in the development of financial policies and procedures to ensure strong internal controls and proper financial management.

    Operational Support

    • Support the upkeep and management of organizational and operational systems, including databases, HR processes, and technology platforms.
    • Contribute to maintaining compliance with local, state, and federal regulations for SEA.
    • Facilitate smooth office operations by managing supply inventories, coordinating maintenance services, and ensuring a clean, well-organized workspace.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit financial management, demonstrating strong accounting skills for organizations with operating budgets of $3 million or more.
    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks Online) and Microsoft Excel.
    • Strong understanding of nonprofit financial regulations, GAAP, and grant reporting.
    • Experience with managing financial audits and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

    SEA is the umbrella organization and governing body of a network of 21 U.S. nonprofits and 6 international partner organizations that combine squash, academics, mentoring, and college and career readiness for more than 2,500 young people. SEA leads this network by launching new programs, promoting best practices to ensure the highest quality programming among member organizations, and providing additional educational and athletic experiences for students and alumni. Over the course of the year, SEA organizes dozens of tournaments, camps, educational programs for students, and conferences for staff and board members. Ninety-four percent of the high school graduates of our U.S. member programs matriculate to college, 79% earn degrees in six years or less, and 80% identify as first-generation.

    Benefits include 20 days of vacation annually, health insurance, a 401K matching plan after one month of full-time service, a hybrid work schedule with three days in the office and two days remote each week, plus an additional five remote workdays that the employee can choose throughout the year.
