Position Overview:
The Executive Director (ED) of Franklinton Cycle Works will be a visionary leader who embodies our values and is committed to advancing our mission. As the primary leader of FCW, the ED will be responsible for steering the organization’s strategic direction, decision-making, overall management, and representing the organization in the community. The ED will oversee all aspects of operations, staff management, financial health, and stakeholder engagement to ensure FCW continues to fulfill its mission and vision. This role requires a people person, an effective team manager, and an advocate for equity and transportation justice.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership, Strategic Planning and Vision:
- Provide leadership and direction to define and achieve FCW’s mission, vision, and long-term goals.
- Identify opportunities for growth and create actionable plans to seize them.
- Develop and implement strategic plans that encompass annual budgets, long-term financial goals, fundraising, and market trends.
- Foster an inclusive and positive culture that aligns with FCW’s values.
Team Management:
- Lead, motivate, and manage a team of staff, volunteers, and community members.
- Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff, ensuring alignment with FCW’s mission and goals.
- Develop team members’ skills, create performance expectations, hold staff accountable, and encourage a collaborative, results-driven environment.
- One of the ED's first tasks will be hiring a skilled Shop Manager who can manage retail operations, personnel, and the shop’s day-to-day activities effectively.
Operations Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the retail store and bike service, ensuring it runs efficiently and effectively.
- Work with the incoming Shop Manager and the Service Department Manager to maintain an organized, customer-focused retail environment and optimize shop functions and inventory management.
- Manage and nurture FCW programs that expand access to bikes, repair, and education for underserved members of the community.
- Ensure that FCW's services and programs are delivered in a high-quality, mission-aligned manner.
- Continue to spearhead FCW’s Bikes for Independence program, securing sponsors and collaborating with referring partners.
Financial Management:
- Prepare and manage the organization’s budget, ensuring financial sustainability and transparency.
- Identify and pursue diverse funding sources, including grants, donations, sponsorships, and earned income.
- Work closely with FCW’s Treasurer, bookkeeper, and external CPAs to manage financial statements,
- Oversee bookkeeping, accounting, and financial reporting, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
Fundraising and Development:
- Develop and implement fundraising strategies to support FCW’s growth and sustainability.
- Write grants and expand funding sources.
- Cultivate relationships with donors, sponsors, foundations, and community partners.
- Plan and execute fundraising events and campaigns.
Communications and Marketing:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy to increase FCW’s visibility.
- Oversee social media, website content, newsletters, and other outreach efforts to attract and engage members, volunteers, donors, and customers.
- Ensure that FCW’s message is clear, compelling, and consistent across all channels, reaching diverse audiences.
Community Engagement and Advocacy:
- Represent FCW in the community, advocating for cycling as a form of transportation, recreation, and empowerment.
- Build partnerships with local businesses, government agencies, and community organizations to secure sustainable support for FCW’s bike access and education programs
- Establish and maintain relationships with media and participate in public events and forums to raise awareness of FCW’s mission and programs.
Collaboration and Board Relations:
- Collaborate closely with the Board of Directors, participating in regular and annual meetings to ensure alignment with FCW’s mission and strategic goals.
- Provide regular updates on organizational progress, challenges, and opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (equivalent experience considered).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit leadership or management.
- Proven experience in team management, fundraising, grant writing, financial management, and program development.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated passion for equity, justice, human rights, and sustainable transportation.
- Knowledge of bicycle culture, transportation issues, or retail bike shop experience is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities.
- Effective communication, public speaking, and presentation skills.

Compensation and Benefits:
- $65,000-$70,000 annual salary commensurate with experience
- $2000/yr healthcare-related expense stipend
- 2 weeks/yr Paid Time Off plus holidays and sick days
