    Position Summary

    A key member of a five-member Development team that raises about $1.5 million annually from private foundations and individuals with the aim of doubling contributions from individuals in the next 3 years through a mix of events, and restricted and unrestricted campaigns. The team also supports $8 million in government funding/awards annually. The Assistant Director of Individual Giving will play a leadership role in the development and implementation of an individual giving strategy and program with a focus on major gifts and portfolio management, and inclusive of lower dollar direct response efforts. At this time, the organization is poised to develop a comprehensive strategy to grow and sustain an active individual donor base. The Assistant Director of Individual Giving will drive this effort.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Work with Chief Development Officer to set overall strategy;
    • Develop and manage a major gifts strategy, including portfolio development for key organizational staff including the CDO and CEO, and program directors;
    • Develop and maintain their own donor portfolio, cultivating relationships with donors and donor prospects.
    • Perform ongoing prospect research, continually identifying opportunities for new or upgraded support;
    • Work with program teams in partnership with the Chief Development Officer to identify prospects and messaging to encourage support and investment by community members;
    • Develop donor-targeted messaging, writing copy and preparing materials for appeals, digital marketing efforts, fundraisers, and one to one outreach by portfolio managers;
    • Work with the Development Manager to ensure gifts are received, and properly coded, recorded, and acknowledged;
    • Build and cultivate relationships with donors, community members, local business leaders, and neighbors;
    • Serve as a deputy to the Chief Development Officer, filling in and providing support with any and all development activities when required;
    • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Greenwich House programming.
    • Compile data from Raiser’s Edge for reports, development communications, and more.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • 5-8 years of experience in development with a focus on major gifts programs;
    • Experience with donor relationship management beginning with introduction and engagement through solicitation of donations;
    • Experience soliciting major gifts;
    • Experience developing individual giving and donor engagement strategies;
    • Excellent relationship-building skills: ability to personally connect with and engage diverse groups of internal and external stakeholders;
    • Experience writing about programming with an arts and/or social services focus;
    • Experience in New York’s philanthropic ecosystem;
    • Experience with Raiser’s Edge is a plus;
    • Passion for Greenwich House’s mission to foster wellness, creativity, and connection through a constellation of programs, indicative of the settlement house movement.
