    Accounting & Finance Manager

    About the Position

    This position is an ideal fit for a professional who has a strong understanding of accounting and not-for-profit business management, is comfortable navigating comprehensive systems and databases, can positively collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and complete tasks with a high degree of ownership and care. Responsible for a broad range of accounting tasks including administration of contract billing, accounts payable, payroll taxes, and financial reporting; managing of business relationships and service agreements; and ensuring that the regular reporting and compliance measures for the organization are maintained.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Performance manage and problem solve with the finance team, comprised of a bookkeeper and medical billers.
    • Create and complete annual budget in collaboration with CEO and board finance committee.
    • Complete year-end reporting and closing of budget.
    • Project manage annual audit with auditors and Form 990 tax return with tax consultant.
    • Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, month-end close, and compliance.
    • Ensure payroll taxes and reports are filed and paid in a timely manner.
    • Manage month-end closing procedures and reporting.
    • Create forecasting models as needed and provide quarterly budget updates.
    • Provide reports for department managers and for grant/funders when needed.
    • Maintain and be familiar with all agency financial contracts.
    • Ensure compliance, reporting, and audit requirements are fulfilled with contracts.
    • Attend external meetings and complete required training as accounting/business representative.
    • Review and manage insurance (all types) and tax filings for organization.
    • Maintain Policies & Procedures for the finance department, updating for efficiencies and best practices.

    Additional Responsibilities

    • A/P review of billing and client refunds.
    • A/R review of financials.
    • Ad hoc reports and analysis as needed.
    • Training with ESIT (Early Support for Infants and Toddlers) processes to understand revenue.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Position Requirements

    • 4-year degree in accounting or related; CPA a plus but not required.
    • Nonprofit accounting experience required.
    • QuickBooks experience required.
    • Financial analysis and business development experience a plus.
    • 3+ years full cycle accounting experience, plus if within nonprofit sector or with government contracts/funding.
    • Familiar with medical billing codes or processes is a big plus.
    • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel knowledge and skills, and QuickBooks.
    • Excellent attention to detail and organization.
    • Able to work both independently and as a team leader and peer in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
    • Maintain confidential information.
    • Effective communication and positive customer service skills.
    • Proficient at engaging/working with multiple stakeholders at all organizational levels.
    • Valid driver’s license, current insurance, and reliable automobile required.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Bilingual preferred.
    • Experience working with accounting and payroll software, AdvancedMD and/or ADP Workforce Now preferred.

    Supervisory Responsibilities

    The position is responsible for supervising all employees in the finance department. Supervisory responsibilities could include recruiting, interviewing, hiring, training, coaching, and terminating employees. 

    Physical Requirements/Work Environment

    While performing this job, the employee will be in an office environment and their home. At times, this position may lift boxes or items up to 30 pounds. This position sits for prolonged periods of time, reaches above the head, and uses a screen for up to 8 hours a day.
