    Title: Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator

    Status: Full-Time. Regular hourly/Nonexempt position

    Hybrid role: Remote Mondays/Friday and in the office Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday

    Position

    National Headache Foundation Community Outreach & Engagement Coordinator implements initiatives that will engage target audiences in understanding and supporting equitable and impactful solutions to the needs of people in the headache and migraine therapeutic area.

    The Coordinator will be responsible for people outreach, engagement, and events. This position requires a high level of collaboration to ensure NHF becomes better known not only within our Chicago community, but also ultimately to people and communities that need us across the region and rest of the country.

    This position reports to the: Strategic Partnerships & Program Engagement Lead.

    Responsibilities-Job Duties

    A. Strategy - NHF within the Community:

    • Coordinate with NHF leadership in the development of the strategic plan to serve in Chicago community (in person and virtual), Mid-west region (virtual) and nationally (virtual).
    • Target demographic – general community patients, caregivers, families, loved ones
    • Employers, health and well-being service organizations and community leaders – public and private sector
    • Volunteers – advisory around program/initiative engagement
    • Ideate, develop, and implement proactive outreach programs and initiatives that enhance NHF presence and impact within the civilian community. Focus first on the Chicagoland area and across Illinois and second region/national as needed. Communities are defined as people, patients, caregivers, families, loved ones.
    • Tactics include – Stories, Events (in-person and virtual), Photo opportunities
      • Note: This position will coordinate closely with the Lead, Military Community Program to identify when civilian opportunities overlap with the military for greater impact.

    B. Tactic – People, Organization, and Community Leader Engagement

    • Operationalize existing “Share your story” strategy resulting in the publishing of annual stories
    • Identify targets and consider inclusion of caregivers or loved one’s perspective to multiply outreach
    • Interview prospective volunteers to collect details of their stories
    • Write compelling stories to increase awareness
    • Track progress of story collection efforts
    • Coordinate the strategy in building relationships with targeted employers, organizations, leadership to identify awareness and education opportunities (i.e. town halls, health fairs, employee engagement events, etc.)
    • Advertising for, screening, and recruiting volunteers, providing them with training and support, tracking their performance, and keeping records of their activities.

    C. Tactic - Event Engagement:

    • NHF Originated: Develop and operationalize NHF led community events, lunch and learns, workshops, podcasts, speaking opportunities, and/or meetings – acting as the primary coordinator ensuring seamless execution and memorable experiences for participants:
    • Planning, budget management, logistics, execution, reporting and evaluation;
    • Coordination of communications and promotion strategy with the Digital Communications Lead;
    • Collection and organization of photos, video shorts, interviews that cultivate new connections.
    • External Partner Originated: Proactively identify and operationalize support for collaboration led partners like Miles for Migraines, Shades of Migraine, etc. that build rapport, result in community outreach, and foster strong external stakeholder relationships.

    D. Results Meaningful Impact Metrics

    • Develop and manage documentation to track and record the operations and outcomes of outreach events, stories and volunteers.
    • Provide data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
    • Support the salesforce.org database – ensuring that all relevant, accurate data grows our existing database.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
    • At least 3 years in customer relations, program management, inside sales, marketing, partnership, education, or communications role.
    • Self-starter with creativity, flexibility, and passion for creating mission-driven person-centered programs and events.
    • Goal-oriented thinker with the ability to translate community initiatives into actionable plans that amplify the vision, mission, and focus of the NHF.
    • Solid communication, interpersonal, technology, and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse internal and external stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills, meeting deadlines, attention to detail, and working well with a sense of urgency.
    • Ability to work independently, while also collaborating as part of a team.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Military Service.
    • Personal or professional experience with headache or migraine conditions, or a strong understanding of their impact on individuals and communities.
    • Proven experience in speaking, engaging, and building relationships with the public and diverse stakeholders.
    • Preferred candidate would understand marketing via omni-channel resources including social media marketing, email marketing, and design (i.e. Canva, MailChimp, Instagram, YouTube).
    • Experience in healthcare patient advocacy relations or equivalent role supporting a philanthropic organization/charity.
    • Computer skills, including Word, Excel, Zoom (or other webinar software), etc.
    • Occasional travel for local or national events, including overnight stay(s).
    • Ability to lift 30-50 lbs. for event setup
