    SEEDS – Access Changes Everything (formerly New Jersey SEEDS) is a privately funded, statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities to academically talented, financially limited students. SEEDS works with competitive, primarily independent, secondary schools to provide opportunities for highly motivated, academically qualified, and economically disadvantaged students.

    The Summer Challenge Program (SCP) is welcomes approximately 130 New Jersey students each year. SCP is a residential program held on a boarding school campus and consists of daily classes in English, Math, and History for three weeks during the summer following 7th grade. At the completion of the three weeks, selected students are invited to continue with the Scholars Program and participate in a twelve‐month program of classes, retreats, workshops, and events.

    The Capstone Experience (Capstone) is the final phase of the 14‐month Scholars Program, engaging approximately 95 SEEDS Scholars in academic enrichment. Capstone is a residential program held at a boarding school campus. The program consists of daily classes in English, Math, Science, and History for three weeks during the summer after 8th grade. Scholars also participate in a variety of elective classes, leadership development workshops, and sports activities as they prepare for the transition to independent school life.

    The SEEDS Teaching Fellow in the Humanities will bring enthusiasm and expertise to a diverse teaching faculty. The Teaching Fellow should be enrolled in or have recently completed a graduate program in the humanities and have some teaching experience. Applicants do not need to have taught middle or high school students in the past, though work with young people is a plus. Depending on experience, the Teaching Fellow may be given the opportunity to develop a curriculum that reflects their field expertise and serves SEEDS Scholars.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Teach subject area according to curriculum guidelines specified by SEEDS
    • Teach 4 sections of about 15 students Monday through Saturday
    • Hold office hours during consultation period
    • Participate in ongoing curriculum evaluation and development to meet the changing needs of students

    EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

    • Mastery of subject area
    • Clear and consistent written and oral skills
    • Teaching experience in a rigorous academic environment, including work with highly motivated students
    • Demonstrated talent in the instruction of students with varied learning styles and educational backgrounds

    ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS

    • Review and comment on written assignments, exams, and projects with the goal of supporting student development
    • Participate in faculty meetings as outlined by the Dean of Studies
    • Prepare detailed comments about each student through both informal and formal progress reports to be used in the evaluation process for admission to the SEEDS Scholars Academy Saturdays
    • Additional duties as needed
