    About the Role

    The Community Outreach Coordinator will assist with a grant-funded project to educate drivers about the Missouri’s Hands Free law and collect Buckle Up Phone Down Pledges. In 2023, Missouri became the 49th state to pass a hands-free driving law. The new law presents a unique opportunity to discourage distracted driving behavior.

    This position is grant-funded. Current funding expires December 31, 2025, and the position relies on additional program funding to be secured for the position to continue beyond 2025.

    The ideal candidate will enjoy connecting with new people from diverse backgrounds. They will be self-motivated and self-directed, bringing ideas and solutions to the leadership team and following up with action. They will be highly organized, keeping track of and following through on deadlines.

    Reporting Relationships

    The Community Outreach Coordinator will report to the Chief Operating Officer and will work closely with the Membership Coordinator and Marketing and Communications Director.

    Work Conditions

    The position is based in an office environment with work-from-home options and flexibility. The Trailnet office is located in Downtown St. Louis. For virtual work, a dependable high-speed internet is required for video calls.

    The Community Outreach Coordinator will frequently work evenings and weekends at indoor and outdoor community events throughout the bi-state region. Office hours will be flexed to accommodate event schedules.

    Responsibilities

    The Community Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing outreach opportunities to promote Trailnet’s Drive the Change campaign, including the Buckle Up Phone Down (BUPD) pledge and Missouri’s Hands Free Law.

    Program Coordination & Reporting (50%)

    • Coordinate and brainstorm with Trailnet’s communications marketing team to achieve programmatic goals
    • Maintain timely and accurate pledge records, including transcribing data from pledge sheets
    • Reporting back to the program funders about the program’s progress
    • Identify potential community partners to serve as the primary point of contact for partner organizations.
    • Attend and take notes on monthly Hands-Free Missouri Coalition virtual meetings to stay up-to-date on other advocacy and education campaigns happening across the state.
    • Other duties related to the campaign as assigned.

    Volunteer Management (20%)

    • Manage Trailnet’s Street Team, a group of volunteers dedicated to supporting outreach efforts. This includes recruiting, training, and scheduling volunteers for events.
    • Identify, recruit and train Drive the Change champions to assist in outreach and pledge collection.

    Events* (30%)

    • Identify, vet, select, and sign up for community events to promote Drive the Change and Trailnet’s mission.
    • Coordinate with event organizers as needed.
    • Transport materials to events, with assistance from other staff as needed.
    • Schedule staff and volunteers for events.
    • Note: The Community Outreach Coordinator is expected to attend many events on evenings and weekends.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Enrollment or partial completion of a bachelor's or associate's degree program in a relevant field OR 1+ year of experience in a community outreach role is preferred.
    • Experience working in an office environment.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills.
    • Confident meeting and working with new people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Comfortable speaking to groups of 10-50 people.
    • Positive, enthusiastic outlook.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
    • Highly computer literate and technologically savvy.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Aware of Trailnet’s mission and the importance of our role in the St. Louis area.
    • Self-motivated; able to work alone and as a member of a team.
    • Capacity to work evenings and weekends.

    Physical Requirements

    • Reliably transport up to 25 lbs. of materials from the office downtown to events in the community.
    • Work at a computer.
    • Work outdoors.

    Compensation

    $20-25 per hour, 30 hours per week.

    As a reduced-work-week, full time employee, the Community Outreach Coordinator will qualify for benefits.
