    Position Summary

    Alliance for a Better Community seeks a Researcher who reports to the Director of Policy & Advocacy and supports the ABC team and clients to design, create, and present policy options based on external and internal research. The candidate must be available from 8:30 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday. This is a Hybrid position with 60% Remote.

    Responsibilities

    • Research design: Design and complete research projects that investigate social issues pertinent to Latino/a community
    • Data collection: Use a variety of methods to collect data, such as interviews, surveys, focus groups, and desk research
    • Data analysis: Use qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze and interpret data
    • Theory testing: Test theories to advance understanding of human relationships
    • Collaborate: Work with internal and external stakeholders to determine priorities and define outputs
    • Presentation: Present findings to clients and stakeholders to inform policy decisions as written reports, visual presentations, and data compilations to address readers from the least to most proficient in research
    • Policy linkage: Link current policy and ABC research to policy suggestions
    • Ethics: Follow ethical principles to protect the reputation of the researcher, the people involved in the study, and the validity of the research data

    Qualifications:

    • All staff members must exemplify the values of ABC as they are presented.
    • A commitment to the mission and goals of ABC and a demonstrated commitment to the advancement of the Latino/a community
    • Education: Masters in social science research-related field required
    • Experience: 2 years of related policy research required in fields of education, health, civic engagement, or other related field
    • Content Knowledge: Must have the ability to analyze programs and communities and have some knowledge of Los Angeles and California public policy issues
    • Community Knowledge: Some experience working within the Los Angeles region, city, school districts, public officials and agencies, and key community partners with a deep understanding and experience working with the Latino community
    • Leadership Skills: Leadership skills with a proven track record in leading efforts with diverse stakeholders and partners and contributing positively to the work culture by being solutions-oriented and a team player
    • Collaboration: Able to work within a team environment and lead collaborative efforts to accomplish collective goals and objectives. Must maintain positive working relationships with organizational leadership and staff to meet collective goals
    • Organizational Skills: Good project management and multi-tasking skills, e.g., attention to detail, ability to create and monitor project budgets and timelines, proper documentation of work and record keeping, and the ability to prioritize work effectively
    • Communications Skills: Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Proven ability to establish and maintain high-priority relationships. Preference for bilingual candidates (Spanish & English)
    • Community Engagement: Demonstrated expertise in engaging with community members, particularly in gathering feedback and lived experience testimony. Proven ability to work with predominantly Spanish-speaking communities, with knowledge of culturally responsive practices for effective communication and outreach

    Compensation

    This position offers a salary between $57,000 and $74,000, depending on qualifications, experience, and funding. ABC offers a competitive benefits package.

    Workload and Physical Demands

    An employee must meet the physical demands described here to perform the essential functions of this position successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. While performing this position, the employee is regularly required to operate a personal computer for up to 8 hours a day and talk on the telephone or webcam for multiple hours per day. The employee is occasionally required to support outdoor events and to lift or move up to 50 pounds.
