Assistant Athletic Trainer Job DescriptionThe Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the health, safety, and performance of Sarah Lawrences student-athletes by assisting in the development and administration of the sports medicine program. This position focuses on the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and illnesses while ensuring compliance with the standards and regulations set forth by the College, the NCAA, and the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
Essential Duties SummaryEssential Functions
- Provide comprehensive sports medicine coverage for all practices and competitions, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and emergency care.
- Manage and maintain accurate and confidential medical records per federal and state regulations.
- Implement up-to-date treatment and safety protocols, ensuring adherence to best practices and institutional standards.
- Facilitate appropriate medical referrals and coordinate care with physicians and healthcare providers as needed.
- Educate student-athletes on injury prevention, recovery, concussion safety, and compliance with NCAA regulations, including banned substances.
- Offer guidance and rehabilitation programs tailored to individual student-athletes recovery and physical performance goals.
- Regularly operate and maintain athletic training equipment, including therapeutic and emergency response tools.
- Stay current with professional development and certifications, including NATABOC requirements and CPR/AED training.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the athletic training facilities, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.
- Manage inventory and supplies, including tracking and restocking essential items as needed.
- Participate in departmental meetings, collaborating with athletic staff to discuss athlete health updates and scheduling.
- Assist in administrative duties related to the athletics program and contribute to the overall mission of the department.
- Serve as a liaison between student-athletes, coaching staff, and healthcare professionals, promoting a culture of health and safety.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Required QualificationsRequired Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Athletic Training or a related field.
- A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in athletic training, preferably within a college environment.
- Current certification by the National Athletic Trainers Associations Board of Certification (NATABOC).
- CPR/AED certification.
- Demonstrated understanding of NCAA and NATA regulations concerning sports medicine.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred QualificationsPreferred Qualifications
- Experience working with collegiate athletes or within an academic setting.
- Familiarity with the Athletic Trainer System (ATS) for medical recordkeeping.
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and vacation periods as necessary.
- Proficiency in using rehabilitation equipment and software related to sports medicine.
