    Careers In Nonprofits has been retained by the Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County to lead in the search for their next Staff Accountant.

    This is a Full-Time, Remote (Suburban Cook County Based) position.

    ORGANIZATION: Alliance to End Homelessness in Suburban Cook County

    LOCATION: Remote (Suburban Cook County, IL)

    POSITION TITLE: Staff Accountant

    SCHEDULE: Full-Time

    DURATION: Permanent

    SALARY: $68,700 - $71,500

    Is This Your Dream Job? The Staff Accountant will facilitate the organization’s accounting needs including accounts payable, accounts receivable, grant management, and payroll. They will obtain and maintain a thorough understanding and high level of accuracy of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.

    This position will play an instrumental role in the financial future and growth of the organization. It involves handling highly confidential and sensitive information and interaction with staff in different departments of the organization.

    Our Ideal Candidate:

    • 3-5 years experience in Nonprofit Accounting and Federal Grant Compliance
    • Familiarity with GAAP and OMB Uniform Guidance- Required
    • Proficient in QuickBooks and Bill.com
    • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
    • Self-directed, highly organized, and capable of managing multiple priorities and deadlines
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
    • Masters and/or CPA-Preferred

    How You Will Spend Your Day:

    Accounts Payable (33%)

    • Track incoming and recurring bills and enter invoices and requisitions into Bill.com.
    • Code transactions to proper grants and GL codes to ensure correct allocations and compliance with grant requirements and budget availability.
    • Review, monitor, record, and process monthly pass-through subrecipient grant billings.
    • Track subrecipient match obligation. Ensure completeness of backup documentation.
    • Maintain accurate partner agency files for subrecipient pass-through grant billings.
    • Maintain updated vendor files with ACH information for e-payments; W9s and 1099s.
    • Manage the processing of 1099s and 1096s at year-end.
    • Administer the setup and processing of bill payments via Bill.com e-payments.
    • Resolve vendor discrepancies and billing issues promptly.
    • Track credit card expenses closely and ensure accurate coding of expenses in Bill.com.

    Accounts Receivable (33%)

    • Work in close collaboration with the Programs and Operations Assistant to prepare, review, monitor, and record monthly grant billings.
    • Create customer invoices in QuickBooks while paying close attention to grant spending.
    • Work closely with the CE Training and Planning teams to create training and membership invoices in QuickBooks and receive payments in the system.
    • Record council dues and payments in QuickBooks while maintaining accurate GL codes.
    • Record HUD payments in the system.
    • Prepare and submit monthly grant billings to county/city/state.
    • Track aging invoices monthly and ensure/support collections.
    • Ensure all bank activity is entered into the accounting system.
    • Oversee the entry and reconciliation of donation income in collaboration with the Development team.
    • Work closely with the Office Manager to ensure timely bank deposits and transfers.
    • Maintain accurate customer files and accounts.

    Grant Management & Other (34%)

    • Maintain Grant Balance Tallies- track revenue/expense by function, activity, and grant.
    • Ensure electronic files are complete and organized per archival/retention requirements.
    • Represent the Alliance at mandatory grant award/informational meetings– submit required paperwork and signed grant agreements/reports.
    • Support federal, state, city, local, and private grant compliance.
    • Support an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year end close.
    • Support the timely reporting of all monthly financial information.
    • Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
    • Prepare for and assist with grant monitoring and financial audits.
    • Work with the Senior Director of Finance and Operations and the Office Manager to ensure clean and timely year-end audits.
    • Support internal audits and monitoring.
    • Support biweekly payroll requirements and serve as a back-up for payroll processing.
    • Other duties as assigned
