    Senior Associate

    Location: Remote (20% travel within U.S.)

    Advocacy Rising is a boutique consulting firm that helps foundations, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations drive bold policy change. We specialize in advocacy training, coalition management, and strategy development, equipping advocates with the tools they need to create lasting change.

    We work with leading philanthropic and nonprofit organizations, including The Colorado Trust, Rose Community Foundation, Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, Gates Family Foundation, and dozens of advocacy organizations across the country. Our work spans progressive issue areas such as democracy, racial justice, economic security, immigrant rights, environmental sustainability, and health equity.

    Position Summary

    The Senior Associate will oversee projects within our core services. This includes designing and leading state and local advocacy trainings, managing multi-year policy coalitions and campaigns, and leading organizational capacity projects for local nonprofits. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about advocacy and public policy, highly organized, and eager to contribute to meaningful social change. This position offers exposure to high-level strategy and policy development with leaders in the advocacy and philanthropic sectors.

    The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Advocacy Rising also offers opportunities for a bonus through an annual review process and a competitive benefit package.

    Key Responsibilities

      • Lead advocacy trainings for state and local organizations, including the curriculum design, project scoping, logistics and evaluation.
      • Manage complex policy coalitions at the state level, across different states and issue areas.
      • Develop multi-year strategy proposals for legislative policy campaigns.
      • Create coalition structures, governance documents, and stakeholder alignment to launch new coalitions.
      • Lead capacity building projects for nonprofits expanding their policy and advocacy programs.
      • Conduct policy research and analysis on legislative, regulatory, and political developments.
      • Provide project management support, ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
      • Build relationships with new potential clients, and lead business devleopment efforts.

    Qualifications

    Required

      • 5-10 years of experience in state legislative advocacy, public policy, government relations, or policy campaigns.
      • Held leadership roles in multiple state legislative policy campaigns, working from policy conception to bill passage.
      • Experience developing and leading coalitions to advance state legislative policy.
      • Experience with training or large-group facilitation.
      • Experience in state policy analysis, advocacy strategy, and policy coalition building.
      • Proficiency in Google Suite, Canva, and project management tools (e.g., Asana, Trello).
      • Passion for social justice, advocacy, and public policy.

    Preference

      • Held the role of Policy, Political, or Government Relations Director at a state-based advocacy organization (or similar role).
      • Experience in one or more of the following states: Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Minnesota, Virginia, Michigan, Massachusetts, or Maine.
      • Experience design trainings and workshop curriculum.
      • Worked across multiple issue areas in the policy and advocacy space.
      • Strong foundation in state legislative power mapping and strategy development.
