    Banyan Global is seeking short term consultants to support an upcoming project. The Economic Development and Subject Matter Expert (SME) consultants will support the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA)’s Recompete Program by providing tailored technical assistance, strategic advisory services, and content expertise to a national network of economically distressed communities. These experts will serve as key contributors to the Recompete Community of Practice (CoP), helping grantees implement workforce development initiatives, build multi-sector coalitions, and develop sustainable regional economic strategies. SMEs will provide one-on-one consulting, lead learning sessions, and contribute to the development and dissemination of best practices that promote growth, job creation, and long-term economic resilience. This position is based in the United States and is contingent on funding.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide expert advisory services to Recompete grantees and plan designees in the areas of economic development, workforce development, and regional collaboration.
    • Deliver tailored technical assistance and strategic consulting based on coalition needs and priorities.
    • Lead or participate in virtual and in-person learning activities, including webinars, workshops, peer learning groups, and forums.
    • Document emerging insights and innovations to support knowledge sharing across the Community of Practice.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Economic Development, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Workforce Development, or related field strongly preferred.
    • Minimum 8 years of relevant domestic experience in economic development, workforce programs, regional planning, or nonprofit/public sector consulting in the United States.
    • Deep domestic subject matter expertise in one or more of the following areas:
      • Regional economic strategy and development
      • Workforce development and training systems
      • Workforce-focused information campaign development/community outreach campaigns
      • Coalition building and stakeholder engagement
      • Social services, healthcare, childcare and eldercare service development and expansion
      • Entrepreneurship and small business support
      • Community revitalization and inclusive economic growth
      • Digital literacy
      • Transportation infrastructure and innovations; microtransit development
      • Economic development capacity strengthening in tribal areas of the United States.
    • Strong understanding of the needs of underserved and distressed communities and the challenges of federal grant implementation in the United States.
    • Experience providing technical assistance or consulting to public, nonprofit, or Tribal entities.
    • Ability to communicate complex information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
    • Collaborative mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
