    Description

Teach English to Immigrants and Refugees

More than 150,000 adults in Northern Virginia have limited English proficiency. With a large network of volunteers who serve as teachers, class aides, and tutors, the English Empowerment Center (EEC) teaches English to beginning-level learners at 19 different locations in Alexandria, Annandale, Arlington, Falls Church, Herndon, Lorton, Reston, and also online. Volunteers able to serve in evening classes in the Chantilly area are especially needed for the Spring semester.

We are currently looking for volunteer English language Testers! Testers interact directly with students to help assess their language skills and ensure they're placed in the right classes to succeed. No prior testing or teaching experience is needed-we'll provide all training (including certification).

EEC also seeks volunteers to support Instructors in the classroom, office data entry, special events, outreach, and translation. Prior teaching experience or foreign language proficiency are helpful but not necessary to get involved. Use your skills and knowledge of the English language to make a difference in the lives of immigrants and refugees in our community!

Come to an information session/volunteer orientation to learn how you can help. The next orientation is on Thursday, January 16th from 7-8pm over Zoom.
