    President - Executive Board

    Role Responsibilities and Qualifications

    • Responsibilities: Lead organizational vision and strategy, chair board meetings, oversee all operations and committees, represent PFLAG LA externally, maintain relationships with key stakeholders and community partners, ensure organizational effectiveness and sustainability.
    • Qualifications: Proven nonprofit leadership experience, strategic planning expertise, strong understanding of LGBTQ+ issues and community needs. Excellent communication, relationship-building, and consensus-building skills. Previous board experience required.

    General Qualifications

    • Passion for Mission and Values: Demonstrated commitment to advancing PFLAG’s mission of creating a caring, just, and affirming world for LGBTQ+ people and those who love them. Deeply understands and actively supports the organization’s three pillars of education, advocacy, and support, while embodying PFLAG’s values of accountability, bravery, inclusivity, and collaboration to foster a culture of safety, empowerment, and belonging for all.
    • LGBTQ+ Community Experience, Allyship, and Intersectionality: Strong personal, professional, or lived experience with LGBTQ+ communities, either as a member or through committed allyship, with a deep understanding of intersectionality and how various identities (e.g., race, gender, socioeconomic status) intersect with LGBTQ+ experiences.
    • Collaborative Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to work effectively with board members, volunteers, and external partners to achieve organizational goals. Demonstrates strong communication skills to engage, inspire, and maintain relationships with diverse perspectives and experiences.

    All board members are expected to:

    • Commit to a minimum of 3-4 hours per month for a two-year term.
    • Maintain a current PFLAG LA membership.
    • Attend quarterly + special board meetings and training as needed.
    • Actively participate in advancing our mission through their expertise and networks.

    If you’re interested in applying for a board position, you’ll need to:

    1. Submit your resume
    2. Answer these questions in a cover letter:
      1. Which board role(s) are you most interested in?
      2. What motivates you to support the mission of PFLAG LA and LGBTQ+ rights?
      3. What experiences are you hoping to gain as a board member, and what unique perspectives do you bring to support our mission?
    3. Provide two professional or community references who can speak to your qualifications for the role(s) you’re applying for. This will be asked later on in the process if you move forward.

    What to Expect After Applying

    Board Position Process:

    1. Submit Your Application
    2. Initial Interview (30-minute Zoom)
    3. Second Interview (30-45 minute Zoom with two board members)
    4. Board Vote and Invitation (at a future board meeting)
    5. Complete Onboarding and Training
