    Description

Storytelling Volunteer at Peruvian Social Enterprise

Join us as our Storytelling Volunteer, and help us show our work to the world. The Storytelling Volunteer position sends you across the organization and our work. You may travel up to the communities to write about a workshop or photograph textiles while they are still on the loom; accompany a tourist group overnight; interview artisans for a social media partnership; or make sure to be in the office when artisans come in to learn a new product or deliver an order. Back at your desk, you will write and post about our work, and plan upcoming communications. There is lots of opportunity to adapt the role according to your interests, and help in other areas of Awamaki's work.

We look for a Storytelling Volunteer who is creative, hardworking and flexible, and willing to learn our anticolonialist approach to showing and talking about our work.

    Specific responsibilities will include:

    • Create social media content for Instagram and TikTok by working with other team members to coordinate trainings and meetings with the artisans to photograph, product sampling and development, and other events at Awamaki
    • Use Hootsuite to plan posts and draft captions
    • Occasionally create longer written pieces about the artisans' techniques and products, or the work that Awamaki does, for blogs and donor reporting.
    • Interview women’s cooperative members, volunteers, and tourists about their experience with Awamaki’s programs and take photos of those experiences.
    • Create and manage (with the rest of our team) blog and social media content or accounts to increase and engage followers, and bring traffic to our social enterprise programs. Study online tutorials if necessary to lead our team in learning how to increase engagement.
    • Learn and experiment with SEO and Google analytics if interested.
    • Depending on skills, occasionally design printed or web materials like tags for handmade artisan products, or product catalog,
    • Update product listings on online retail store
    • Draft customer and donor emails
    • Use monitoring and evaluation data to tell stories for donors and funders.
    • Manage projects as assigned by Awamaki’s management team with creativity, initiative, and self-direction.
    • Work 2-3 shifts a minimum of 6 – 9 hours per week/weekend in Awamaki's fair trade store in Ollantaytambo (required of all staff)

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An ideal candidate for this position would possess the following qualities:

    • Have experience in writing, photography, marketing or communications
    • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud, Mailchimp, and Shopify
    • Experience managing social media accounts for businesses
    • Background in journalism or photojournalism
    • Work well with lots of autonomy and be able to design projects
    • Spanish and English proficiency strongly preferred

Room and board assistance, and complete fee waiver, available for volunteers who stay six months or longer.
