    Volunteer Opportunity

    This is a unique opportunity to assist an attorney by providing Spanish-language interpretation to respondent's before and after pro se (self-represented) immigration court hearings. The volunteer will work closely with the attorney to ensure Spanish-speaking clients understand legal procedures and can effectively communicate with the court.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide interpretation for Spanish-speaking individuals consulting with an attorney before or after attending their immigration court hearings.
    • Ensure accurate and culturally sensitive communication between the attorney and client.
    • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times.
    • Assist with any legal documents or materials as needed, ensuring they are understood by the client in Spanish.
    • Be available to attend hearings as scheduled by the attorney, with hours varying based on court dates.

    Requirements

    • Fluency in both Spanish and English (spoken and written).
    • Strong communication and listening skills.
    • Ability to interpret legal terminology accurately and in a culturally sensitive manner.
    • Ability to remain neutral and impartial in interpretation.
    • Must be 18 years or older.
    • Availability to volunteer on a flexible basis, with hours depending on court schedules (in-person in San Francisco).
    • Prior experience in interpretation or translation, especially in legal settings, is preferred but not required.
