    Description

    Project Learning Opportunity

    Approximate Weekly Hours: 5 hours

    Approximate Project Duration: 6-10 weeks

    Project Deadline: Fall, 2025

    Project Description:

JFCS of Greater Philadelphia Case Management staff recently migrated from their previous Electronic Health Records (EHR) platform to a new case management platform. As part of this migration, key data was moved from the old system into the new; however, not all data was moved. Some older data for current programs was excluded, as was all data from programs which are no longer in operation. We were in our old system for over 15 years, so this data adds up. Additionally, due to various legal reasons, we are required to have full access to the case histories of all the clients we serve. We are looking for assistance in building a local back-up of all EHR record data while we still have access to that system. We need to have a database constructed in an SQL client that is a carbon copy of the schema/data in the EHR. This will require download of all data tables (100+) in their entirety, mapping out and rebuilding their schema, creating key validations/protections, and building some key queries. There is flexibility in the finer details of the project, and thus there is some room for creativity. This project will provide hands-on practice with SQL, experience working with a real case management system, and exposure to the various data privacy and security protocols that come with HIPAA compliance.

This project is overseen by Noah Erkes, Director of Evaluation, but it also interfaces on a regular basis with Natalia Vonarburg, our Data Operations and Quality Coordinator. Check-ins are conducted at least on a weekly basis. This project could be done entirely remotely, but JFCS also has offices in/around the Philadelphia area that allow for some in-person work as desired. Either way, due to the sensitive nature of our data, this project must be completed in its entirety on a JFCS laptop, which would be provided. Please note that this is an unpaid volunteer opportunity but provides a valuable work experience that we will provide a reference for in future opportunities.
