    Description

    Overview: We are embarking on an ambitious project to archive and digitize the history of those who were enslaved in the United States and their descendants throughout the state of Tennessee. This includes records from churches, schools, families, institutions, and businesses. We are seeking dedicated volunteer archivists to help us organize, document, and meticulously scan these invaluable historical records.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Archival Organization:
    • Sort and categorize historical documents, photographs, and records related to the history of enslaved individuals and their descendants in Tennessee.
    1. Documentation:
    • Accurately document the provenance, context, and details of each item in the archive.
    1. Digitization:
    • Scan historical documents, photographs, and other materials with high precision and care.
    • Ensure that digital copies are clear, legible, and accurately represent the original materials.
    • Organize and store digital files systematically for easy access and long-term preservation.
    1. Quality Control:
    • Review scanned materials for quality and accuracy, making necessary adjustments to ensure high standards are met.
    • Conduct regular audits of both physical and digital archives to maintain integrity and organization.
    1. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with other volunteers, historians, and community members to gather and preserve historical records.
    • Communicate effectively with team members and project leaders to report progress and address challenges.
    • Participate in regular team meetings and contribute to project planning and development.
