    Project Title: International Volunteers for Health and Nutrition Advocacy

    Volunteer Position:

    • Health and Nutrition Advocacy Volunteers

    Purpose of the Project:

    The goal of this project is to promote better health and nutrition practices across communities in Ghana, particularly in rural and underserved areas. Volunteers will focus on raising awareness about the importance of balanced diets, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyles. This project aims to empower individuals and families with the knowledge and tools they need to improve their health, prevent malnutrition, and fight against preventable diseases.

    Subjects to Be Taught:

    • Basic Health and Nutrition Education
    • Healthy Eating Habits and Meal Planning
    • Prevention of Malnutrition and Common Diseases
    • Hygiene and Sanitation Practices
    • Maternal and Child Health
    • Mental Health and Well-being

    Work Activities:

    • Organizing health and nutrition education sessions for community members, especially targeting vulnerable groups like women, children, and the elderly.
    • Providing guidance on proper nutrition, cooking methods, and dietary choices to ensure a healthy, balanced diet.
    • Conducting outreach programs to raise awareness about common preventable diseases, such as malaria, cholera, and malnutrition.
    • Facilitating hygiene and sanitation campaigns to improve public health and reduce the spread of diseases.
    • Supporting mothers and caregivers with information on breastfeeding, infant nutrition, and maternal health.
    • Collaborating with local health facilities, schools, and community groups to strengthen health promotion efforts.

    Skills & Qualifications:

    • Background in nutrition, public health, or related fields (preferred).
    • Knowledge of local health and nutrition challenges in Ghana.
    • Strong communication skills to effectively engage with diverse communities and groups.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in dynamic and sometimes resource-limited settings.
    • Passion for promoting health, wellness, and sustainable nutrition practices.

    Volunteer Roles:

    • Health Educator: Lead health and nutrition awareness workshops, providing community members with essential knowledge on diet, disease prevention, and healthy living.
    • Nutrition Advisor: Offer personalized advice on nutrition, meal planning, and dietary adjustments for individuals and families.
    • Sanitation Coordinator: Promote hygiene and sanitation practices to reduce the spread of infectious diseases in local communities.
    • Maternal and Child Health Advocate: Provide educational support for pregnant women, new mothers, and caregivers on maternal health, infant care, and breastfeeding.
    • Mental Health Advocate: Educate the community on mental health issues, promote well-being, and reduce stigma around seeking mental health care.

    Orientation & Training:

    Volunteers will receive:

    • A detailed orientation to the organization’s mission, values, and health-focused goals in the community.
    • Specialized training in health and nutrition education, public health outreach, and community engagement.
    • Access to materials, tools, and resources needed to deliver effective health campaigns and nutrition programs.

    Project Start Date:

    The project will begin on a mutually agreed date, with volunteers receiving initial orientation and training before starting their activities.

    Materials to Bring With:

    • A laptop or tablet to facilitate virtual learning, program planning, and resource sharing.
    • Notebooks and other materials for taking notes during community workshops and health education sessions.
    • Comfortable clothing and supplies for fieldwork, such as conducting door-to-door outreach or community visits.
