Change Starts with a Letter, Impact a Life: Be a Pen Pal to an inmate

For many individuals within the correctional system, the experience of incarceration can be isolating and emotionally challenging. Feelings of loneliness, disconnection, and hopelessness can prevail. As a pen pal volunteer, you have the unique opportunity to become a beacon of hope, offering a lifeline of friendship, support, and encouragement.

This is a significant commitment that requires dedication and consistent effort. A minimum commitment of one year (6-12 months) is essential to build a strong and enduring connection with your pen pal. To foster a meaningful and supportive relationship, we recommend exchanging 1-2 letters per week. This consistent communication allows for the development of a genuine bond and provides a consistent source of support for your pen pal.

The impact of your volunteer work will be profound. You will experience the immense satisfaction of knowing you are making a positive difference in someone's life. This rewarding experience will provide you with valuable insights into the human experience and the importance of compassion, empathy, and understanding. By offering your time and friendship, you contribute to a more just and equitable society, fostering hope and connection within the correctional system.

This volunteer role is ideal for individuals who possess a strong sense of empathy and a genuine desire to make a lasting impact. A commitment to long-term volunteer work and consistent communication is crucial. Excellent written communication skills and a compassionate nature are essential qualities for successful pen pal volunteers. If you are ready to make a difference and experience the transformative power of human connection, we encourage you to join our Pen Pal Program.
