    Description

    Board Member

Triage Cancer is seeking a candidate for our Board who is passionate about our mission and believes in our work. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about using their expertise, experience, and networks to help the organization build sustainability and advance our goal of helping individuals diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers.

The Board supports the work of Triage Cancer and provides mission-based leadership, development support, and strategic governance. Day-to-day operations are led by Triage Cancer’s CEO and COO. Board member responsibilities include:

    Development & Fundraising

So that Triage Cancer can credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, and individuals, Triage Cancer expects to have 100 percent of Board Members make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their capacity.

Triage Cancer board members are asked to give an amount that is personally meaningful of at least $500 and meet an additional minimum fundraising commitment of $2,500. This fundraising commitment can be met in several different ways (e.g., raising money by hosting a house party, inviting people to attend a Triage Cancer fundraising event, online fundraising, sending out an “End of Year” appeal to your networks, personal contributions, employer matching contributions, assisting in securing a donation or sponsorship from a company, etc.). The fundraising commitment is prorated for board members who join the board during the middle of the year.

Board members actively engage in development support of Triage Cancer’s operations, including:

    • Making introductions and opening doors to networks locally, regionally, and nationwide, which may support the work of Triage Cancer
    • Helping Triage Cancer build relationships with external stakeholders
    • Acting as an ambassador for the Triage Cancer program and sharing Triage Cancer’s mission, goals and outcomes with potential individual, corporate and foundation funders
    • Hosting a small event and/or supporting other board members in their efforts to do so
    • Inviting people to attend or sponsor fundraising or educational events hosted by Triage Cancer
    • Promoting the availability of Triage Cancer services (e.g., on social media networks, through professional associations, etc.)

 Follow Triage Cancer on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn

 Like/retweet Triage Cancer social media posts

 Add your board membership to your LinkedIn profile

    Leadership, Governance, & Oversight

    • Providing strategic guidance and professional expertise to support the work of Triage Cancer and implementation of the strategic plan
    • Regularly measuring Triage Cancer’s performance and effectiveness using agreed upon outcomes and metrics
    • Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings
    • Approving Triage Cancer’s annual budget and financial reports, and being informed of, and meet all, legal and fiduciary responsibilities
    • Recommending future Board members, Scientific Advisory Council members, Legal Advisory Council members, or Business Advisory Council members
    • Serving on committees and taking on special assignments and ensuring that board resolutions are carried out
    • Ensuring Triage Cancer’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities Triage Cancer serves
