Volunteer Charity Treasurer

The Treasurer will be a member of the Executive Committee and have overall responsibility for all financial matters relating to the charity, including monitoring the bank accounts, making payments up to a certain amount, and regular reporting. The holder should have previous experience of being a Treasurer, or other relevant experience.

The Treasurer will also be required to report to the Trustees at meetings held three times per year, and at the Annual General Meeting.

If they have the prerequisite experience, the Treasurer may also have line management responsibility for the Merchandise/Shop team, and the Membership Secretary.

NOTE: Due to the financial nature of this role, the holder will be required to undertake enhance disclosure and vetting procedures.

Main Duties:

• Reconcile bank accounts with Xero Accounting software on a monthly basis
• Prepare accounts over summer period, allowing enough time for the external accountants to review and Trustees to sign
• Submit accounts to the charity commission no later than the 31st January each year.
• Pay expenses on a monthly basis to volunteers. All expenses are to be pre-approved by CEO
• Ensure expenses are properly recorded and reconciled
• Submit Gift Aid claims (4 x per year)
• Attend three Trustee meetings and 1 AGM per year and provide reports ahead of these meetings
• Ensure all Financial policies are reviewed at least annually
• Work with other members of the ExCo to draw up budgets where required for large scale events
• Regularly attend monthly ExCo meetings in order to update the wider Leadership Team on financial matters
• Involvement in issues of fundraising and other matters as appropriate

Optional and dependent on experience:-

• Line managing Merchandise team and Membership Secretary
• The Treasurer can, at their discretion, recruit for a finance manager

In volunteering for the charity, you will receive training opportunities, the chance to attend a wide variety of events and mix with a wide variety of people, and the chance to attend events on the Overseas Territories.
