    Description

Hybrid: Remote support & coordination. Provide onsite Transportation service (you will need a vehicle).

Flatbush Cats is a TNR-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to end the cat overpopulation crisis in Brooklyn.

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that gives your vehicle the adventure of a lifetime, all in the name of supporting a mission-driven organization? Buckle up, because this ride is going to be a tire-squealing extravaganza!

We are seeking Transport Volunteers to support Flatbush Cat’s various efforts by providing transportation support to our programs. TNR and rescue work in a large city comes with its own special obstacles. Many residents do not own vehicles, making it challenging for a small team to get cats to their foster homes, vet appointments, and spay/neuter clinics, while also supporting large-scale TNR projects. For urban animal welfare groups like ours, volunteer transporters are invaluable.

    ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Transport Volunteer plays a key role in our ability to continue. Transportation is one of the biggest ways to help our organization, our volunteers and community members in the streets taking care of cats and/or our rescue program. We ask that transport volunteers commit to at least two trips per month as their schedules allow. Opportunities will often be made available a few days in advance, but we may also send (optional) alerts out to our Transport Team for last-minute needs.

    TYPICAL TRIPS INCLUDE

    • Foster transports: Picking up cats from our holding space and delivering them to their foster homes (1 hr)
    • Vet appointments: Picking up cats from foster homes and accompanying them to and from vet appointments (1-2 hrs)
    • Spay/Neuter appointments: Early-morning and/or mid-afternoon transport of cats to a variety of clinic locations. TNR certification required (1.5-3 hrs)
    • TNR project transport: TNR certification required (hours vary)

BENEFITS TO BEING A TRANSPORT VOLUNTEER

Being a volunteer at Flatbush Cats will provide a fun and rewarding experience! Volunteers can enjoy the satisfaction of helping a mission driven organization by supporting an organization that rescues and cares for cats. Additionally, you will meet like-minded people and develop new skills. This is an opportunity to use your love for animals and people by helping us in our mission to reduce the outdoor cat population in Brooklyn.

    OUR ORGANIZATION OFFERS YOU

    • Training - providing new volunteers with trainings at Flatbush Vet
    • Project management - helping colony caretakers fix the cats on their block with hands-on mentorship
    • Resources - offering holding space, equipment, and help with spay/neuter appointments
