Volunteer Listing: Black History Docent
Date: February 14th, 2025 and February 15th, 2025
Location: Marietta, GA
Volunteer Commitment: 6-8 hours
Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable volunteer to serve as a docent for a Black History event. As a docent, you will guide attendees through exhibits, sharing insights, historical context, and stories that highlight the rich culture, heritage of the pre-transatlantic african society. This is an opportunity to engage with the community, educate others, and celebrate a part of Black history that is often not highlighted in a meaningful and interactive way.
Key Responsibilities:
Share information on Black culture, notable historical figures, and important events.
Answer questions and encourage conversation to enhance educational experience.
Participate in brief training session on the day prior to the event to learn about the specific exhibit details and key talking points.
Assist in setting up and breaking up exhibit materials if needed.
Ideal Candidate:
A passion for history and education, especially in the context of Black History and culture.
Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
Ability to engage a diverse audience and foster meaningful dialogue
Willingness to learn and share knowledge.
Training and Support:
Docent will receive a brief training on February 14th, 2024 to familiarize themselves with the exhibit on February 15th, 2024 and key talking points.
Ongoing support will be available during the event for any questions or guidance
