We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable Climate Educationist (Volunteer) to join our team. In this volunteer role, you will spearhead our climate education initiatives, developing and implementing educational programs that raise awareness and inspire action on climate issues. This is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact through education while expanding your experience in the open source and environmental sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement climate education programs, workshops, and materials tailored to different audiences, including schools (middle school, high school, university), community groups, and partner organizations.
- Collaborate with educators, environmental experts, and other stakeholders to ensure that content is accurate, engaging, and culturally relevant.
- Lead efforts to integrate climate education into existing curricula, working with schools and educational institutions.
- Organize and conduct training sessions, webinars, and events to raise awareness of climate issues and promote sustainable practices.
- Create and distribute educational resources, including lesson plans, infographics, and videos, to support climate literacy across various platforms.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of educational initiatives, gather feedback, and refine programs to maximize impact.
- Represent CLENT Africa at Virtual educational conferences, workshops, and other relevant events.
Expected Requirements:
- Availability to dedicate at least 5 hours per week to volunteering for a minimum of 6 months (flexible hours within your availability).
- Strong background in environmental science, education, or a related field, with a deep understanding of climate change and sustainability issues.
- Experience in curriculum development, teaching, or educational program management is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex topics in an accessible and engaging manner.
- Proficiency in Google tools (Docs, Sheets, Presentations) and familiarity with digital education platforms.
- Proficiency in GitHub OR willingness to learn
- Creative and innovative thinker, with a passion for educating and inspiring others.
- Reliable internet access and your own computer/laptop.
How Does the Volunteer Team Work?
- Volunteer work is done remotely on Discord & GitHub, with weekly meetings to coordinate efforts and discuss progress.
- The volunteer should use the remaining hours for their activities, working asynchronously on content development, program delivery, and outreach.
- Potential opportunities to engage directly with schools, NGOs, and community organizations to implement climate education programs.
