    Description

Gain more skills and Experience by Joining EACO in Uganda

    Hallo,

Warm greetings from all of us at Empower And Care Organization here in Uganda East Africa. We have volunteer opportunities for you here at EACO in Uganda which will help you to gain more skills and experience in Community work.

    • Assisting with funding proposals more so in preparing budgets, writing Financial reports that we can send to our donors and friends, helping our Partner Schools in preparing their school budgets and Financial reports (These are rural schools without power and no computers, for them they use manual books of accounts but one of the challenges they are facing is skills in doing so and also its very expensive for them to pay for an accountant and at the end they find themselves not knowing what they have spent, sometimes they end up in Debts.) we work with over 30 Primary schools in rural areas of Mukono and Buikwe, volunteers who stays for 2 weeks can also help of for a full year working in these schools. 1 volunteer per each school if possible.
    • Teaching Microsoft Office; Excel, Word & PowerPoint in those few schools with computers but also to the Schools teachers and our young youth in the communities we work with.
    • Teaching English in the schools we work with more so in Primary schools and the term is beginning next month (if we can have over like 4 volunteers in each school for a period of 2- 3 months, this will help much) as well as organizing workshops for the school teachers and this will help to build their capacity. Workshops in Education, Child care, and workshops in Business development in this case we are looking at ways teachers can also start some side income projects than always depending on their salary.
    • Coaching sports still with the schools we work with.
    • Business development & young entrepreneur skills training still schools and communities can benefit from this. This Targets vulnerable women, particularly widows and individuals living with HIV/AIDS, OVCs, and grandmothers caring for children. It seeks to address the lack of economic opportunity for these vulnerable populations by providing training and individualized instruction in entrepreneurship, marketing techniques for small businesses, microfinance, and the implementation of income-generating activities (IGAs) including: farming, vegetable growing, coffee growing, cattle keeping, bee-keeping, chicken rearing, piggery, mushroom growing, tailoring and design, arts and crafts, and hair dressing and styling.
    • Healthcare focused projects in the health centers and community centers we work with in 75 communities where EACO operates from. And others are surrounded by the lakes and rivers, so there is high rate of HIV/AIDS, we shall also look into counseling and guidance, educational trainings, and community outreach related to HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), family planning, and life skills planning. In order to implement this program, EACO works with Mukono Health Center to administer free voluntary counseling and testing for HIV/AIDS and other STDs and provides HIV+ individuals with ARV's. EACO volunteers then make regular home visits to those who have tested positive in order to supply them with foodstuffs that have been donated to EACO. Through this program, EACO regularly visits 50 HIV+ individuals in the community and provides them with donated foodstuffs so they are able to consume nutritious foods that will help them to stay healthy and strong. these communities may also receive training on all aspects of hygiene. The training can involve participants to concepts of public health engineering/environmental health in emergencies and to families. By the end of the training, participants will able to understand:
    1. the links between water, sanitation and health
    2. the nature of, and the threats posed by, environmental diseases
    3. the importance and main elements of hygiene-promotion
    4. the complexity in delivering safe water and sanitation in an emergency
    • Project management more so to the community members who are taking control of their projects.
    • Volunteers in the field of Agriculture, currently we are in need of 20 volunteers to come and work on our bee farm in Namanganga community as you see here, http://eacouganda.org/site/2014/07/08/eaco-bee-keeping-farm-in-mukono-uganda-you-can-join-the-team/
    • Accommodation is free, but being that its a community based organization we would ask you to fundraise for 400 Pounds, this will help us to cater for your services for a month.
    • Support during the preparation • Residence in a host family (including two meals, breakfast and dinner) • Pick-up service from Entebbe airport • Guidance during your stay in Uganda
