    Description

    Overview

Fruitslice is seeking a detail-oriented Copy Editor to join our team. This is a key role focused on proofreading and quality control across our organization’s materials, from literary publications to website articles. If you’re someone with a sharp eye for grammar, a love for language, and a commitment to community-focused work, this is the position for you.

    Responsibilities

    The Copy Editor will:

    • Proofread and Cross-Reference: Ensure designed layouts are fully aligned with final drafts, maintaining consistency between formats.
    • General Proofreading: Review all organization materials, including marketing collateral, emails, and other communications, to ensure they are polished and professional.
    • Final Quality Control: Serve as the last set of eyes before materials are published, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to our style guide.
    • Support Literary Projects: Proofread and finalize pieces as they are formatted for our website, ensuring online articles match the quality of our printed publications.
    • Participate in Style Guide Discussions: Engage in conversations around Queering language, updating and applying our modified AP style guide to strengthen community and resistance through inclusive and innovative language practices.

    Qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

    • Is meticulous and detail-oriented with strong proofreading skills.
    • Has a keen interest in grammar and is willing to familiarize themselves with our modified AP style guide.
    • Is excited to engage in discussions about Queering language and how language can be used as a tool for resistance and connection.
    • Is comfortable working on tedious, detail-heavy tasks like cross-referencing layouts and final drafts.
    • Is self-motivated and thrives in a remote, asynchronous environment.

    Technical Requirements

    The ideal candidate will:

    • Be proficient in Slack and Zoom for team communication.
    • Have access to tools for reviewing documents, such as Google Drive/Docs and PDF viewers.
    • Be willing to take an open-book quiz based on our style guide to get familiar with Fruitslice’s unique approach to language.

    What We Offer

    • A fulfilling opportunity to contribute to a bold, Queer, and unapologetic literary mission.
    • Flexibility to work asynchronously with occasional Zoom check-ins.
    • Optional open Zoom hours to connect with other team members and build community.
    • Opportunities for growth within the organization as your skills and interests develop.

    Time Commitment

    • Flexible hours, based on your availability (a few hours per week is typical).
    • Workload may increase slightly during publication deadlines or major organizational updates.
