    Description

    Out for Undergrad (O4U), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 2004. Its mission is to help high-achieving, and otherwise diverse, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer  (LGBTQ2+) undergraduates achieve their full potential. O4U is the preeminent nonprofit organization helping LGBTQ2+ and otherwise diverse undergraduate students to:

    • Explore their authentic selves,
    • Consider what matters most in life and work,
    • Jump start their careers with direct introductions to recruiters,
    • Engage with a supportive, professional, and peer network from 100s of campuses and within the world’s 200+ leading corporations. 

    In addition to serving approximately 1,000 undergraduate students per year through industry-specific conferences and year-round programming, O4U has over 8,000 alumni and supports a robust and highly engaged alumni community.  

    Position Summary: 

    Out for Undergrad is looking to expand its Board of Directors. This position involves collaborating with other Board members to set the organization's strategic direction, ensure financial stability, and uphold the organization's mission and values. Board members are expected to provide informed guidance, strategic leadership, governance, ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards, and contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Board.  

    Responsibilities: 

    Board members agree to: 

    • Invest their time, talent, and resources into the mission of O4U
    • Be an advocate for the organization and the LGBTQ2+ community
    • Contribute their expertise and oversight to the organization 
    • Fulfill the Board’s three legal responsibilities: Duty of Care, Duty of Loyalty and Duty of Obedience
    • Support the fundraising efforts of the organization and leverage personal and professional networks to support the goals of the organization 
    • Follow the O4U Board Member Code of Ethics 
    • Hire a strong Executive Director (ED), delegate authority for administrative action, and evaluate their performance
    • Attend all Board meetings and approximately three on-site events each year 
    • Approve financial procedures for the organization; provide for safe administration of funds and accurate records of finances and activities; comply with all IRS regulations
    • Set the strategy and organizational direction, including approval of short and long-term goals and support the ED’s vision

    Preferred Qualifications: 

    • Experience: External senior industry leader with a proven track record of leadership and governance, preferably within an industry or sector relevant to the organization.
    • Knowledge: Strong understanding of corporate governance, financial management, and strategic planning.
    • Skills: Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills. Ability to think critically and provide constructive feedback.
    • Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to the organization's mission, values, and goals.

    Term and Compensation:

    • Board members are recruited on an on-going basis; sponsorship and mentorship opportunities are available for select candidates in advance of appointment 
    • Board members typically serve a term of three years, with the possibility of renewal.
    • This is a volunteer position; however, expenses related to board activities may be reimbursed as per the organization's policies.
